Access to the trig point s blocked but you can get within a few feet of it though it is not viewable. English Heritage staff confirmed that the trig point is still in place but not accessible due to public safety reasons.

First visit to Old Sarum in half a century or so. Didn't want to attract the ire of EH so contented myself with viewing the castle remains.

First time visit to Old Sarum. Well worth it. Too many folk and EH staff about to scale the remains of the Keep. Easy enough scramble.

Surface Block is in good condition on top of the ruined walls of the keep. A careful scaling of the wall produced the photographs below. Good views from up there, especially over the Avon valley to the W.

Site belongs to English Heritage. I was allowed on to the site accompanied by a knowledgable member of staff who was not aware of a surface block anywhere on site. Had a brief look around but no sign of anything.

I reckon the site of the trig is on top of the ruined walls of the Great Tower of Old Sarum Castle on the northern edge of Salisbury. The site is owned by English Heritage and is open to the public but naturally you are not allowed to climb onto the Norman stonework. The top of the ruined wall is too high to visibly check if the trig is still in place. A circuit of the ramparts gives wide views of downland in most directions. The site looks over Salisbury and its cathedral in the south. Laverstock Down is on the horizon to the east, Beacon Hill could be seen in the north and Grovely Woods in the west. The foundations of the old cathedral can be seen in the outer bailey to the north-west. The ruins at Old Sarum are Grade I listed structures.
