Parked in Sumner Street car park, walked to end of street and into the community nature area below the wood. Found paths part way up and then onwards to the summit, which Dottie bagged. Care needed as the trig is in sight of the house of the Beast of Birshaw. I walked out the same way but later walked around on the RoW to the south as part of a longer walk where the Beast of Birshaw appeared outside her shack with the two alsatians, she came out and glared at me all the way past whilst the dogs tried to break the fence down. Once you are gone she clicks her fingers and the dogs go silent, but she won't do anything when you are there. Completely unacceptable behaviour to people walking on a RoW, but it is well marked if little used. Definitely avoid the path if possible, what a nasty but sad way to live. We need to bring the Scottish outdoor access laws to the UK because of people like this...

Approached from the SE following the footpath from Moss Hey Street which runs adjacent to the Metrolink line. Reading about the Beast of Birshaw, I opted to come off the PRoW before the barbed wire fence, towards the woodland. I then headed directly uphill to the trig. I was wise to do so as someone was working in the field. So unable to get trig side of the fence but managed to touch the pillar with my walking pole. It's in really good nick. Just a pity that the landowners are so horrible.

I honestly wonder sometimes why I am so polite to some people. Lady farmer gave me a hard time denying a PRoW goes through her yard/land, dogs were not allowed on paths, did I know where I was going, refused permission at 3.30pm to visit the trig since it was getting late (250m from farm) and told a huge porky about inspection twice a year. Not to be deterred I passed through her farm/land (W to E) and with the dog did a commando raid along a barbed wire fence and out of sight of the farm. Last pillar of the day and I gift to the many weeks ahead of home schooling/working that parents have to face.

In 1945, this triangulation station was computed during the reconnaissance of Secondary Block SD80 (Manchester) as tertiary triangulation station SD80/T9. In October 1958 the bench mark on this pillar was valued for height to first class precision, tertiary levelling standards. This marker was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in February 1980. SITE VISIT: Easterly edge of grazing field. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with asphalt. Flush bracket faces south, compass measurement 178°. Farmer woman was at gate with her daughter when I returned. A roasting rant ensued about me parking on pull over of track just inside farm gate. "You never asked permission to park on my private land" Felt like she was embellishing her anger to show off her power & authority in front of her kid. "You're not an official OS person.
