As viewed from the M1 driving south. Logged as damaged (rather than good) as the mast has been undergoing significant upgrades and repairs recently meaning that the antenna at the top has been removed and replaced. As well as the mast being 8m lower than before if the mast was to be used as an intersected TP again new survey observations would need to be made. See https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/gallery/helicopter-used-replace-emley-moor-20770127.amp for more details.

Deserves a high score for being the tallest freestanding structure in the UK. Actually preferred looking at from a few miles away than close up. Obviously seen it as a landmark for decades, but this was the first time we had driven up to it. I hadn't realised this was a 1971 replacement for the original mast that blew over in March 1969

First visit to YSP since lockdown eased, so what greater landmark than the wonderful Emley. A companion on many walks and journeys since '91. Now minus it's white top and in the process of being given a new lease of life - the replacement temporary mast and concrete plant in situ. Blasting sun but greying over the Pennine tops.

(1637) Grade II listed Emley Moor transmitting station - officially Arqiva Tower. The tallest free standing structure in the UK, so it goes without saying it is easily spotted from some distance away, and was a constant presence today. Last seen by me a couple of months ago, but was unaware that it was an intersected station then. Parked at the - well used - viewing area, and had a spot of dinner. The Sun was in a awkward position for taking photos today, but walking back to bag the other 3 nearby trigs helped out in that regard.

A constant presence today. ©eon

Retrospective log. Went past the site on a walk from Darton to Huddersfield in 1998. Concrete tower built 1969-71 after the previous mast was brought down by wind and ice in March 1969. There must be a nice view from the top albeit not on a windy day.
