Parked on the verge next to it. Used OS sketch as a guide where to prod... first or second stab in tell-tale depression hit the block. Then dug out a square divot to reveal the rod-style rivet. Divot replaced after photographing.

(1510) All good. Covered over only by grass, and once that was moved out of the way, all was revealed. Glad that no digging was required, as it's an exposed spot, and in a maintained area in full view of the farm. Plus the police signs on the 'lawn' was off-putting!

Good Friday and my very first surface block. And I thought it was all about pillars before coming here! The most excellent walk from Wintersett via the Barnsley canal and the old Athersley railway line, returning on the Ryhill line, the best 12 miles of the year so far. Shame it was hazy, Staincross has always been a good viewpoint. Located the exact place near the egg and coke sign and the footpath grate. I can't lie, I couldn't see the block but I'm a pillar man really and I must have walked over it so I am counting it. Don't want to look too weird on the side of the A61 what with the divorce and all.....

Like Ted I used the OS sketch and just had to clear a bit of mown grass and small amount of earth before finding it. Take care with your fingers as the metalwork on this block is not the usual rounded bolt but sharp in nature.

Easy to find with the OS sketch; about 2" below the surface but an obvious hole marks the spot. Even by the undemanding standards of Surface Blocks, this item is pretty boring!
