Easy and pleasant walk up from Braid Hills Golf Course car park. Enter the park through the gate to the right of the golf course clubhouse and follow the path up the hill to the right. Trig straight ahead up another small rise. Great views of Edinburgh. Nearby Hermitage of Braid is a nice excursion. Good blackberry picking area but don't tell everyone :-).

Parked at the Thistle Golf Club Car Park. An easy 25mins return journey. This pillar commands great views on this very hot August Bank holiday weekend. The trig retains a white coat of paint. Spider filled and also painted white. A popular venue for dog walkers and joggers and those people wanting to soak in this this lovely holiday weather.

Parked near high point of road to the west where a path leads through to the golf course. However followed paths to right leading uphill so no intrusion onto the playing area. Great viewpoint.

Loved it up here. Sat on one of the benches near the pillar for some long peaceful moments - probably twenty minutes, and surprisingly saw no one. And then eventually down to the Usher Hall to see the Richard Thompson concert - he was in his usual sublime form. A wonderful afternoon on the hills, and a perfect evening of great songs and exquisite guitar-playing. Another memorable Edinburgh experience.

From Braids Hill Approach road, good parking (free). Trig first then onto the hill top 200m ESE. Pillar has lost its top cap, replaced with an asphalt plug which is degrading; all sight holes open. Extensive panorama of the city and its surrounds.

Our second Edinburgh trig today. Parked across the road from the arch on Braid Road and straight up the path to the trig. Lovely to see a gleaming, freshly painted trig - reckon it must be the most pristine of the 57 we've visited so far :) Stunning views over the city and beyond and a very detailed toposcope. It's been pure bliss exploring these hills today, havens of tranquility in the middle of the city, and thankfully a lot more civilised than Arthur's Seat!

Very calm and exceptionally clear day today. Spent 15 minutes studying all the far off hills at the topograph with my binoculars before even making it across to the pillar. Also managed to clearly pick out Beechmount House Dome (TP9223) 5km away which was hidden by trees yesterday when I was almost right beside it.

Vgc pillar on surprisingly good high point in the midst of Edinburgh! Accessed from the marked path to the west. Good parking and a very short rip up the hill. Gale from Arthur's Seat seems to have followed us with the top being almost impossible to stand upright on! Braced against the pillar, the views are 360 degrees and fantastic with "Seven Hills" marked on the nearby viewfinder. Long views to the Lomonds, Traprain Law, North Berwick Law, Bass Rock, Ballancrieff Hill etc. along with the obligatory Edinburgh pillars. Superb for so little effort to get up it! FB faces southeast-ish with all sightholes open but blocked internally. Cap is missing with asphalt plug but that's had a wee hole punched into it...

Second nearest TP to home. Pillar built 18th February 1943 as a town secondary station in Secondary Block NT48 (Edinburgh). Still in good condition, it was repainted in 1995 when the nearby topograph was built. The spider is plugged with cement. All four sighting holes are open and are partially stuffed with litter. The flush bracket faces east. Views across Edinburgh to Fife, The Ochils, and the Pentlands. Lifelong regular visitor to this trig, (the pillar was created long before I was). 8/05/2005: Very clear day. Views to Ben Lomond, Ben Venue, Ben Ledi, Ben More. Photographed many times, GRP.

Birmingham to Edinburgh and back in one day is a long haul!! Still, offspring + kitchen sink safely on train to Caithness in spite of the John Knox Parade which left two thirds of the city centre offlimits to traffic and the other third grid locked with taxis, buses and idiots like me who knew nothing about it! Couldn't come this far without finding one pillar and this was the obvious one, being on a bracken-covered rocky hill just off the A702. A quite white pillar with some decoration by local residents, otherwise condition good! The outstanding views mentioned by previous visitors might have been better if it hadn't been pelting down with rain. Where will I go in 3 weeks time, I wonder, when I have to repeat the journey?

A popular location with joggers, walkers, and locals exercising their dogs. The crowds weren't enough to frighten away an injured fox which limped by on three paws as I approached the pillar. Awwwwww.

Very windy, a few changes since I was last here. Pillar is white with graffiti, concrete plug replacement. Good views but I did not linger.

Levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in 1966. Last maintained by the OS in May 1970. SITE VISIT 2nd nearest pillar to home. This craze started at nearby Blackford Hill, nearest to my home.
