Lovely that the trig point is back after mining in the area, even if not quite in its original spot. There isn't much in the way of a walk around here as the Blagdon Estate simply doesn't have many public rights of way. Parked up at the Milkhope Centre which has a variety of shops and cafe, plus a very short woodland walk. Left the car park and took the marked footpath towards Brunswick. You cross the road opposite Milkhope, through the wooden gate and follow the wide track. A novelty to drop down to the trig! Path looks like it could get muddy on wet days but for a trig so close to the urban, one of the better ones views wise.

Easy parking areas on the quiet road to the south, followed the bridleway to a T junction pretty much in front of Milkhope Farm, pillar is on the grass verge of bridleway. Good condition, not in the original location, but not far away. Not the most inspiring place, but gave it an extra mark as it has been returned and the area landscaped after several years of open cast mining

Who would have expected this to turn up again after all this time, and in such good condition? Cap has gone but all other metalwork intact, FB facing pretty much exactly due N. Bit of a shame its been positioned down a slight dip (4m lower than previous), the only other visible TP now is one of the TV Masts to the S either Pontop or Burnhope, but at least the pillar is back. The former opencast site has been politely re-landscaped with a network of bridal paths, new gates & fences (the smell of fresh creosote still heavy in the air) and hawthorn hedgerows have been planted. My opinion of Banks as an organisation may have improved by just a tiny fraction.

Computed as secondary triangulation station NZ29/29 within the Newcastle Block during 1947, refixed as same in 1984. Levelled for height in 1965. Last maintained by the OS in August 1980. SITE VISIT: On the eastern edge of field. Pillar in good condition. Spider retained OS centre plug. FB faces eastwards into the boundary fence. Vented through south sight hole. Glad to have bagged this when I did, having seen that this countryside has since been destroyed in the favour of the profits of commerce - and brown envelopes.
