A long drive on a very bumpy and steep road. Parked at the bend in the road and walked down the road that goes to the farm and then along the side of a nice wide grassy strip. Great views.

I drove to Sherburn, then took the left turn from Sked Dale up Simon Howe. A few logs mention this road being difficult, but I found the surface fine, it's just very narrow. I parked up on the grass verge at Wold Farm drive entrance, and the pillar was clearly visible a few hundred meters ahead. The farmer has left a very wide scrub strip between two fields, and the pillar sits in what used to be a fence/hedge line. It is in good condition with excellent views, but has an asphalt cap. A very easy and quick minor trespass trig.

The approach Wold Farm drive turns, but you go straight on between two fields.

(1598) Quite a steep drive up to the pillar - the road itself wasn't in the greatest of condition either. Parked at start of farm track. Pillar readily visible from there, and soon reached. All good, though the centre gap is missing and filled in. GR only to about 10 metres. Pillar history: Built on the 7th of April 1951, at a cost of £13 1s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in July of 1984.
