Convenient pull in on west side of reservoir compound. Gated and fenced enclosure. Pillar visible on top of the reservoir. Looks like a number of attempts have been made to get in. Through the mesh on the gate which has been patched up a few times. The gates are chained but crooked leaving a gap at top and bottom. Spider and cap in place. Views obscured by nearby vegetation otherwise would be good across country side to west.

(2887) Lodge Lane entrance for easy parking. Did a circuit of the compound, but nothing obvious presented itself to allow for access. Read about the corner only much later on. As the last successful attempt was seven years ago, I can't say if that is still an option or not. Pillar fully visible from the gates, and FB readable with binoculars. So whilst I didn't get to touch it, I'll take this as a 'near as damn it' visit, and mark it as good. Pillar history: Built on the 19th of February 1949, at a cost of £10 3s 2d. Last maintained by the OS in February of 1990. FB is S4994

Drove past here today, I noticed there was a lot of work going on in the reservoir compound, I then spotted the pillar looking very different to my last visit. Popped into the compound and spoke the Site Manager, asked him what was happening to the pillar and was it likely to be going, he advised me that the work was all but done and that pillar was going to stay where it is now, he suggested it to be in the original location? I suggest it has moved slightly from the other images? Certainly been dug up . At least it survives!! I assume when Trigger visited it in June 2017 it was elsewhere pending its replacement.

I agree with Father Ted - I had a good look through my binoculars at the pillar through the railings and that was the number I came up with. The pillar is quite white-painted and stands on top of the reservoir embankment just off a lane junction. No real views from the road but I should imagine the pillar itself has quite commanding views.

To coin someone elses phrase this is another Reservoir Dog. It is on top of this small reservoir and well protected by barbed wire. I could not resist putting two photos of the flush bracket on the web site taken with a zoom lens. I have had a frustrating time playing with the brightness and contrast on photo editing programmes only to seemingly see at least two different numbers. The first and last numbers are 4 but the second could be 9 8 or 6 and the third 9 6 or 5. Who says the camera never lies. I think I am going to go for S4964
