We took a boat trip to Samson whilst staying on Tresco. Found the bolt without difficulty, by following jonglew’s directions, but substituting ‘south’ for ‘north’: ‘flat rock approx 4m E of footpath leading to South Hill summit, and 5m S of deer wall’. The deer wall is an odd thing to find on Samson. Wikipedia explains: ‘The island was inhabited until 1855, when the Lord Proprietor Augustus Smith removed the remaining population from the island. By this point, the population was found to be suffering from severe deprivation—particularly due to a diet of limpets and potatoes—and consisted of only 2 families: the Woodcocks and the Webbers. Smith then built a deer park on the island, but all the deer escaped.’

Rivet-sized bolt in flat rock approx 4m E of footpath leading to South (corrected from North after reading subsequent loggers comments!) Hill summit, and 5m N of deer wall. Well spotted by Mrs G after extensive search of likely rocks in the area. ***Update 12 Jul 2016. With hindsight wonder if this is in fact a witness rivet to the actual bolt. Further investigation required. ***Re-visited 5 Jul 2022. 1" Bolt located close to track, also an additional witness rivet, to that located in 2014, was located on the track; the Bolt between the 2.
