1st trig today of 4. Spoke to the farmer at Coat Yards farm and granted me permission to visit the trig. His dogs were alerted to my presence as soon as I walked by the farm on the PROW. 17 minutes walk in total. Another one of my retrospective logs (March 2024) and this was still the latest one!

Best route is the wind farm road from the east and climb over the deer fence into sheep grazed field. PROW from the east you have to find a way through a prickerly hedge protected by two fences.

Into the Wingates wind farm, over the gate, then over a high fence at the rear into the field with the trig. (Tried unsuccessfully from footpath to SE, but field edge protected by double barbed fences and a prickly hawthorn hedge and gorse).

My second visit, different route, this time from the E end of the PROW. As previous visit, slightly athletic requirement to get from PROW into Trig field, easiest option is over two picket fences then a squeeze through a gorse bush before a final limbo under a barbed wire fence! All of which proved to be major amusement to the dog. Great views on a clear, bright and breezy morning.

Parked by track leading to Coatyards Farm, there are 2 gates opposite - the left hand one goes directly into the field that the TP is in, the right hand gate is the start of a ROW that leads past the TP but on the wrong side of 2 barbed wire fences and a recently re-planted hawthorn hedge. So taking this option meant walking all the way to the end of this field along the ROW where there is a reasonable opportunity to get over / past the barbed wire and into the upper field and then back and across to the TP. If I'd have known this to begin with I'd have ignored the ROW and just gone through the left hand gate and directly to the TP. Fantastic views S across Northumberland and a good view NW towards the Cheviots. Superb sunset for good measure!
