Parked at the north end of the footpath in Loadhead. Easy walk back down the path and over a small fence into the trig field which had rape seed stubble in it.

Pillar in really good condition and visible from the road to the north. Field has a crop in it however there are clear tyre tracks which we walked up to avoid disturbance. Not much of a view.

I had this one in mind for several months. Crop now cut so easy bag from the road to the north (where there is room to park). Pillar in good condition with all fixings. Spotted some yellowhammers nearby.

Approached from path SW of pillar. Left bikes on fence line and trudged across the recently ploughed field keeping to single furrow to minimise grief if caught by ploughman! All metalwork intact, minimal views and trees a plenty.

Parked forest entrance East of Loanhead, over low fence & straight up to pillar. Pillar in good nick, OS cap in place, no sight holes open. Good view from pillar.

In field of stubble, visible from the road. Parking at entrance to forest track and easily accessed over low fence and short walk across field. Farmland views, almost dark.

Walked up adjacent path then had to cross a barbed wire fence, easy find once in field and took the easier route back down to road and over much shorter fence, crop cut and easy to access at this time of year ;-)

I parked to the west at Loanhead and entered the field over the rusty double gates. Then simply walked up the harvested field to the pillar. (The field boundary parallel to the road shown on the 1:25000 map is long gone). The pillar is in good condition and still retains an original plug. Certainly one to visit between harvesting and ploughing. Nice view point.

I think thats the time I visited the trig as site has been down for a week so was unable to log last Thursday so time might be wrong! Nice walk through tattie field (Potato to the English) and straight up to trig. Fairly decent view all round

Pillar VGC. Spider retains OS centre plug with deep indented font. Flush bracket faces 210°,SW. RHS & back sighting holes plugged, others buried. In an arable field. Please avoid crop damage, approach from westmost corner of field via tramline parallel to NW edge, then head SE via obvious cross tramline to summit. Views to Wangie Hill, Brackenhowe, Knock of Braemoray, and Castle Finlay. Built 26th February 1953. Tertiary station in Block NJ06, Nairn. Visited & photographed 24/08/2005, GRP.
