1" bolt in block, found immediately with a little dead grass covering it. 4m from gatepost on its side of road.

Initially difficult to find - much easier once I moved the car! Partially uncovered so OS sketch not needed. Dug out some encroaching turf and left uncovered. Exactly 1.9m from road edge to bolt.

OK this road has been resurfaced therefore the helpful indicators sprayed on the road have gone. Here's how to find it; using OS Explorer 141 look for Rookham House on the Old Bristol Road. Park up in the drove just south of Rookham House, cross the road and turn right (northerly) passing Rookham House on your left. Continue downhill until reaching a rusty five bar gate on the left. Stand by the gate post on the latch side of the gate and look directly acrosss the road, you are now in line with the surface block hidden in the grass verge on the other side. Take a look at the uploaded photo and you will see my shadow on the ground, the surface block is directly in line with it; dont be confused with the gate in this picture it is not the one referred to.

There is newly painted OS on the road with an arrow (in white not yellow) pointing to the SB. Easy find. Hardly a great viewpoint!

Know how I missed this the other day,had scribbled grid co ords on map and couldnt read own writing! Found easily this time,all clear and in good condition.

Clear of vegetation and easily found on the Mendip plateau by the side of the old Wells to Bristol road. Pleasant rural spot next to a dry stone wall.

For an unlogged surface block, and one apparently not visited by the OS since September 2002, this one was surprisingly clear. Someone has applied weedkiller, maybe?
