From locked gate at Fingland Red Cleuch. Followed track to trig. Returned the same way. Was heading for Criffel but heavy rain set in so that’s for another day

Parked at gate for a lovely later afternoon walk up the big track to the trigpoint. Met two stalkers on the way down with a menacing looking gun.

As others parked at the gate. Great view as you walked up the forest track very enjoyable. Track all the way to the trig made for a lovely day.

Parked at ny144937. An easy walk to summit. Amazing views from the pillar. Go on a clear sunny day. Spider is intact. Compare this trig point before and after forest logging. Very interesting to see what grows on the pillar.

its a 10 from me!!parked by the locked gates and walked up the track,on first sight of the pillar a fox was sat by it,managed a zoom shot before he!/she scarpered, outstanding views.

Parked as others, at locked gate to south. Wire fence at side of gate had convenient dog-sized hole in it! Lovely 4km walk to trig and back, with good views throughout.

First one of the year in the dark. . . . . and the rain. Route as many other people, parked at the gate and followed the forest tracks to the unmapped path which leads up to the trig.

Roadside verge parking (NY 1442 9379), gate was open and could have easily driven all the way... but chain and combo lock hanging there manacingly... I walked. Forest clear felled, pillar in the open with extensive panoramic views. There are some hair fractures but essentially it's in good condition retaining an original centre cap, deeply indented lettering. LHD side sight hole open. On to Criffel - no trig there though.

Dull plod in the drizzle up the forestry road. An unmapped well-surfaced track leads directly to the pillar.

From track to South there is a ride from NY 14866 95032. Trees now felled to south of trig.

Lots of tree cutting going on. The section with the trig has not been cut yet but side branches have been off trees near trig suggesting action there soon. Lots of expensive forestry equipment on site, suspect access to trig might be problematical on working day. Interesting notice at start of track where I parked.

HISTORY: The pillar was completed on 6th August 1953 costing £18.13s.6d. In 1954, this marker was computed for triangulation as secondary station NX99/5 in the Dumfries block. The flush bracket was levelled for height to Class 2 precision also in 1954. The trig point was last maintained by the OS in August 1968. SITE VISIT: Approached from SSW. Parked in track entrance at NY144939. Followed mapped track to highest firebreak. Pillar at top of firebreak, in good condition. Spider retains original OS cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces 227° SW, vented through NW sight hole. Any views all but lost to surrounding conifers.
