Moved in to my top 10 walks - and the trigs not bad either - very easy to get to plenty of parking - we did the circular route via the old military road - extensive damage to trig - brilliant views all around especially Lochnagar - great views of Balmoral Castle and the Prince Alberts Cairn on return route via OMR.

TP3339 - Rocco enjoying the views and posing as usual One of my favourites great views and will definitely revisit

Walk up Geallaig hill in the rain. Was glad of the shelter built up around the trig to duck out of the wind for a while. No views to be had from the trig today, well in the cloud. Walked back via track heading to the southwest to make a loop of it, with short walk along the road back to the car, by which time I was drenched thanks to my waterproof trousers no longer being waterproof!

You don't realise the pillar is actually here until you get right to the cairn because the cairn totally obscures it on approach! Lovely views from the top on a fine and warm October afternoon.

Parked near the cairn on the Old Military Road (B976) and then up on the track across the moor to Geallaig Hill where the pillar resides within its protective circular wall. Open cap with all sight-holes open. Grand views up here today, and plenty of hares, red grouse and lapwings. All good company. Returned via the north-westerly track back to the road at Braenaloin (20 minutes road walk back to car) making it a circular walk of just two hours.

Accessed from the track at NJ280000. A walk up the track on a really blustery day. Plenty of grouse about and very reluctant to leave the cover of the heather in such high winds. Once they were airborne it was Mach 1 in seconds. Spectacular views of the River Dee and Balmoral estate. Trig nicely surrounded by its own outer fortress wall which proved very welcoming in the high wind and easily accommodated Nozzer, Big J and I without the need for shelter seating manoeuvres. Pillar has a large horizontal crack running through at FB height, plug missing.
