Luckily the field gate was open and the field itself was full of hay bales, making it possible to see the trig. If the field was in full bloom I think it would be a struggle, as there was no clear way up from the road with OS map guidance. I didn’t touch it, so for me it’s half bagged, but were it not for a resting cyclist it would have been accessible And it is in an acceptable condition.

Direct route from roadside gate to comms mast compound via tramline. Pillar relocated ~30m eastwards. Column and foundation block uprooted and then moved more than once. Still upright on foundation block and in good condition. Now beside southern edge of mast compound, visitor records and photographs indicate that this pillar was originally moved between 2000 and 2002 and subsequently turned by 90° between 2008 and 2010. GPS measurement confirms that the column originally stood 30m to the west on higher ground in open field and was therefore not moved to accommodate the mast as many think. Spider centre fitted with grey plastic disc by Jon Rouse, 23rd April 2000. Flush bracket now faces south ~ 179°. Vented through sight hole on left face which now faces west. Near complete open skyline but for portion blocked by aerial.
