Two good weather days arrived so decided to attempt the Middleton-in Teesdale 5 Trigs devised by Stuart Ferguson....a local lad? Parked in M-i-T and followed the Pennine Way with a quick diversion N to Harter Fell 1/5 and then onwards to Grassholme Reservoir. In reverse I don't recall any of this route. Two flat batteries in one month and jump leads....remember those? Are gifted today's two pillars saved me £150.

Altitude 482m. I was up here looking for a benchmark (without any joy) and it would have been churlish not to nab the trigpoint. Parked at NY 936 234 and followed the footpath to the edge of the access land. Faint track along the wall to the closest point of approach to the trig - quick wall hop to the TP and then back.

Followed the Pennine Way up past Wythes Hill (last here Aug 2002 when it was a lot warmer!) and then veered off north in the appropriate pasture. Extensive wintry views (another way of describing bleak) but at least it had stopped snowing by the time we started walking. I feared the worst driving over from Brough in the white stuff.
