I drove all the way up the track from Hotham to SE 8851 3526 where the track sharply turns east and stashed the car on the grass verge. The pillar is easily visible a short distance away over a couple of fields to the north, but owing to the proximity of the farmhouse and farm work ongoing, and the number of walkers filing past on The Wolds Way, I felt obliged to go ask for permission here, and was glad I did. I found the farmer and his wife in the yard at Cliffe Dales (the ROW runs right through), and he was very surprised and very pleased to be asked for access permission - "Most don't bother". So with permission happily (even gratefully?!) granted I quickly made it round the field edges to the pillar. No danger of disturbing any crops, there's plenty of scrub strip to use. The trig is in fine condition with a full set of metalwork, albeit some weathering. Fine views made this one a highlight of a cracking round of Wolds trigs - back to base for a pint before the rain hits!

(683) Drove down Hardmoor Lane to the bench and parked up. Pillar readily visible from there. Too early to be knocking on doors at Cliffe Dales Farm. But as I was about to start off to the trig, I met a dog walker, who happened to know the landowners very well. Once I'd explained what it was I was after, she said it wouldn't be a problem to visit the pillar. Pillar history: Built on the 6th of March 1951, at a cost of £15 5s 0d. Last maintained by the OS in February of 1988.

open location in hedgeline, easy to see, approach from bench at corner of track round field boundary. All intact, once painted, now worn off. Good views over Wolds and numerous wind trurbines on the western horizon. ,

Parked on the corner near the bench at the end of the lane SE of the trig then walked round the field perimeter. Not the best place to celebrate your 500th bag, but at least it wasn't a roadside pillar.

Possible to drive along well metalled bridalway to bend, then simple walk along field boundaries. Pillar has a few minor dents with foundations slightly undercut.

As others, left bike at corner of lane from Hotham and walked field edge to clearly visible pillar. Metal seat donated to village at this corner to sit and enjoy the view.

Parked by a bench and a short walk along a couple of field boundaries. Stood in a rabbit hole concealed by grass and nettles while trying to photograph the top.

I found access easy from Hardmoor Lane, to the south-east (is that what mickandshane meant?). Quite a bit of rabbit burrowing around the pillar, one tunnel collapsed as I was trying to get a picture of the top.

Easier to find from the track corner (rather than the road and up the hill) just around two sides of the field.
