A long drive South down Idle Bank to Idle Stop. Parked on waste ground and walked East along river bank. Pillar easy to spot with good views over to Haxey. Will make a nice walk in the summer.

Pretty walk along the River Idle. The grass was getting long but very nice path in the sunshine. The trig point is sinking but I could still see the plate and it was in good condition. Easy to find from lanes near Idle Stop

Been on my radar for ages, but this pillar is quite remote and better makes for a day excursion so nice is the river walk. Parked at West Stockwith and followed the north bank of the beautiful River Idle for 4.7 miles to the pillar. The pillar is in a good condition other than one or two chips and retains the ordnance survey plug. FB is just visible as the pillar has sunk a little into the flood bank. For such a low trig it is very satisfying to visit - the area has an air of remoteness and the River Idle is idyllic as if time has stood still here for decades. The confluence with the River Trent is also interesting with a pumping station and flood barrier. The mighty Trent is wide, powerful and muddy compared to the gentle Idle.

Trig easy enough to find along a river bank. Had to dig some of the flush bracket out because the front of the trig sits low in the ground. Nice views over open fields and the river idle

Easy to find on top of flood bank, and great views in all directions. Fascinating history to this place: the River Idle used to head north-east to join the Torne, but in the great land drainage days of the 1620s-1630s it was dammed and made to flow east directly to the Trent, hence the name Idle Stop. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Idle The surrounding farmland was like an ocean after the Nov. 2019 floods: most of the water has receded but there's still a wetland to the south of the river full of ducks & geese.

What a wonderful name, and a wonderful spot. I did indeed have an idle stop here, meandering back home north from the East Midlands in no particular hurry. Not a cloud in the sky, birdsong filling the air, easy to find on a dyke running alongside a river flanked with willow trees. Felt like the Piper at the Gates of Dawn - I was sure that among this sylvan charm Toad, Ratty and Mole were keeping a watchful eye on me. Proof that a TP doesn’t have to be on top of a big hill to be in a stunning location.

Cycled from boat in West Stockwith Basin. The Idle used to be navigable from Bawtry to the Trent. Its trade declined sharply with the opening of the Chesterfield Canal in 1777.

(329) Leaving Misson and North Nottinghamshire behind, it was time to cross back over into Lincolnshire, and visit the counties most westerly pillar. Been looking forward to visiting this one. Took the long road down to South Carr farm, and parked up at the very bottom. It was then the simple task of following the PRoW straight to the Pillar. All good, though the FB needed a little digging out/cleaning up. Pillar history: Built on the 9th of October 1948, at a cost of £8 6s 6d. Last maintained by the OS in December of 1982.

Easy access and highly visible being situated on what I would describe as a flood bank. Either the bank is being raised or the pillar is sinking as half of the flush bracket is now below ground level. The next visitor would be advised to bring a trowel to dig it out. A somewhat flat area! So, you can see for miles.

Good marks due to very obliging farmer - alowed me to park in farm yard of South Farm, escorted me to trig, told me all about growing beetroot and gave me half a sackful to take home! Thanks.

Nice views, and only short walk from end on nearby No Through Road. Only 5 mtrs above sea level, my lowest trig to date !! Did while Geocacheing, and there is one very close to this trig

Visited on a nice bright, sunny day so lovely views of the farmland and river. I think it looks a little on the small size as its in the side of the bank and buried up to the base of the flush bracket.

Quite scenic with the fading light of the day reflecting on the river and flooded field, with one fisherman and one dog-walker for company.
