To be honest I'd had more than enough trigging in this heat but coinea convinced me we could fit one more in! After a very welcome toasted cheese barm from the food van I managed it but again the photo has to be black and white as my out in the sun all day red face has not gone away!

Vandals :) Next person to visit this trig, please take a tin of paint with you. Lovely walk up to here, and managed to get a photo without any graffiti on. I'm still giving it an 8 despite the morons. Headed over to Hunger Hill after this.

Parked in a large lay-by on Edenfield Road. Took the public right of way (PRoW) from there up to the summit of Knowl Hill and the pillar, which is close to a toposcope. The pillar replaced an earlier pillar at the same location. The cap was missing, so I replaced it with a new one. The pillar could do with a fresh coat of white paint to get rid of the graffiti some moronic clown has placed on it. The top of the toposcope has been vandalised, with the plaque having been stolen

First walk for some time after suffering from lumbar stenosis, so it was good to be "back" excusing the pun. Been here many times previously and interesting to note that since I last visited it has been painted with a purple flower and "Do Not Litter", which hopefully people will do.

Smack bang on the Rochdale Way and looking at the erosion in the area a very popular trig to visit. If you erase the wind farms, there are wonderful views towards the north, east and west. Manchester doesnt count. Gifted to Lidl who have overtaken Covid in the most talked about subject in my town. A new store was opened a week ago. Keep the punters happy.

Well. A proper winter's day. Blue skies, frozen mud, icicles and everything. I didn't think I would ever see one again. Parked in the lay-by to the south and took a random path to the wind turbines. (A lot more than seem to be mapped on my OS). There was clear evidence of off-road bikes as mentioned elsewhere, but as I mention elsewhere a hard frost makes the going a lot easier. Reaching the first turbine takes little time so I planned to follow the vehicle track around clockwise just to make an afternoon of it. Now lots of people don't like wind turbines, (in their back yard), and lots of people don't like motor bikes, (off road). It did strike me that this could be the spot to dump them both. But ultimately I actually took to these giant white beasts. It's a surreal and reflective place. A complaint I've often heard is that turbines make a lot of noise. I didn't find that. A bike would drown their gentle whish. Another complaint is that birds suffer. I didn't notice bird food wildlife in abundance. Does that follow? Maybe in summer. We left the track and tackled the last hundred metres or so to the summit by heading due south. Another micro experience with the sun bobbing above and below the skyline and the bitiest wind blowing from the north. (No, it's not the turbines been causing all the gusts after all! :) ) Quite an achievement to regain full sun again. Still bloody cold though. I might up the score because of Owd Betts. Now OB should be the sort of pub I detest - it clearly makes its money from food - but I quite liked it. It stressed its openness to walkers, boots (good), and dogs (bad), but I wonder how many it gets. Still we felt welcome, and I noticed one "regular" who came in for a coffee and left. This is a pub in the middle of nowhere. Well done. Beer (a considerate 3.8%) highlighted as 3.4 beer miles just adds to the charm. Where was I? Oh yes. Make it 6 then.

HISTORY: Pillar completed with original flush bracket S2795, 6th May 1940 at a cost of £8.8s.0d. This pillar was later rebuilt with replacement flush bracket 11121, completed 31st October 1962. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD80/24 within the Manchester block during 1945. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision at tertiary standards during 1962. Last maintainedby the OS in October 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from southwest. Parked SW side of Edenfield Road (A680) at SD830159. Up via mapped tracks then direct route up hill around any damp valleys. Open moor mapped as access land. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces NNE, compass measurement 31°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. Full 360° panoramic view. Continued to Hailstorm Ridge.

From the layby opposite Owd Betts Pub, followed one of the many paths to the Trig , which is situated on a Moorland top with a Topograph ( without its Topo) and a windshelter close by, The view is a full 360 inc Rochdale , Peel Tower and Wind Turbines,returned the same way

A drenching weekend, manage to grab a few hours on the suitably moody Greater Manchester edges, first of 2 trigs, turbines if bad for the birds do look beautiful in the low late light

Showers to north, windy clear views to Wales Just one other walker about once the motorbiker has gone - hope he gets stuck!

Great views from this pillar. Whilst at the pillar met a man walking his dog. He told me he used to work for Ordnance Survey and he had made observations from the pillar in 1956.

12 mile circular trigbagging walk taking in Hunger Hill, Knowl Hill, Cowpe Lowe and Top of Leach (Hailstorm Ridge) trigs. Until we got here we didn't realise the moor had got a horrible wind farm built all over it!

No plug [remains of asphalt]. Public. Access Land. Ascent from Naden Middle Reservoir dam. Rochdale Way leads unerringly to top of table-like hill with trig, topograph & wind shelter. Wind farm country.

Great views from around here. I first visited this trig during the Rossendale Fell Race on 16th Sept 1984. It was my fourth trig today and now only a short run to the car parked near Owd Betts pub.

Passed whilst out walking with my walking group, The Irregulars LDWA. Accessible and visible as on Open Access land and at the top of the hill. Pillar is in good condition apart from having its plug missing. Super all round views althoug the nearby wind farm detracts from it for me.

Not my first visit to the top of Knowl Hill but my first trigpoint logged! Always nice to be up here when the sun's shining as the view out over Manchester is great. A good view of the partially built Scout Moor Wind Farm from here too.

The trig point on Knowl Hill Some slight knocks and a bit of graffiti, but otherwise in good nick!

top marks, couldnt see a thing, hte way down with our bikes was the best bit, not having a clue what was further than 30ft infront of us due to the mist, was a good 3 trig day.

Mint trek up the hill, completely surrounded by mist at the top so couldn't see a thing, good fun tho.

Climbed up from from Naden Resrs after visiting Hailstorm Ridge & Hunger Hill trigs. Shelter & damaged toposcope also on summit. V popular out & home summit for occasional walkers from Owd Betts'.

On very pronounced rounded hill. No plug. Graffiti. High number, so a more recent trig? Trig Tools DB has it as S2795, but spelt Knoll Moor, with grid ref perhaps 100m away from current position. Public
