Parked outside the caravan park off A470 and headed up. Last bit was a steep climb on a bearing but you don’t really need a compass!

Standard ascent up on the track to the east. Feels very much like a little visited area. Very enjoyable hill to round the day out with. View from the trig did seem better than at the nearby 464m high point.

Came up from the minor road to the east where there is room for one car at the trailhead. Up the track to the abandoned farmhouse after which it gets a bit steep before reaching the top. Came to the trig point first before going over to the Marilyn summit.

The day provided the excellent score. Walked up the bridle path from Blaenplwyf Uchaf on the A470. The path is tricky to follow but it transports you to Pengwern farm buildings. Again follow through the gates to the ford mentioned on the 1:25000 OS map and onto a green track. Follow this up (always) steep in this series of valleys. I walked round the re-entrant of Cwm Gast to the NW tip of the small area of conifers and walked to the pillar. Fantastic views down the Dyfi valley; to Cadair Idris; and to the Arans. Returned on a westerly bearing to cross the Nant Gast and pick up the track again. Retraced my steps to the A470.

Pillar with Cadair Idris behind with a cloudless sky.

Lovely walk in from the SW, drive through Cwm Llinau, follow road past caravan park until it branches left. Park at junction by footpath leading S. Follow lane to the N ,through gate then up valley. At a point where the path kinks head straight uphill through gate. Excellent views of Cadair Idris and the Arans. Great location. Pillar in good condition near edge of plantation.
