Parked at junction of minor road and forest track to the glider field nx884609. Followed the forest road to stone wall at nx893619 and used as a handline. Spent ages thrashing through this wood. Eventually came out at clearing. A short scramble over tussocky heather and bilberries to summit. Pillar next to a small stone building and a cairn. Spider plug intact.Great views but too many flies at this time of year to soak in the panoramic views. Descended via forest ride exiting onto forest road at nx894620 and a solitary uprooted tree. I recommend future baggers ascend and return via the fire break.Extra mark for challenge of navigation.1 hour 30mins up and 55mins return.

Walked up from the yellow road at the Gliding Club sign. Easy firebreaks led to 200m of heather to trig.

Parked on forest road (NX 8924 6198). Fire break from NX 8933 6200, then another starting NX 8946 6195 led directly to the top. Heavy going through heather once out of the plantation. Pillar sits at the HuMP summit within a low shelter cairn. Original centre cap retained, raised lettering; front sight hole open. Extensive views.

Parked at start of forest road. We walked up past the turning to the gliding club and where track turned N we headed into the forest and climbed between the lines of trees (we must have been lucky as it was quite pleasent) Out of the forest the deep heather was hard going to the summit with trig, large cairn and walls of 'shooting hut' Overcast and cold in the strong NE wind.

I opted for a direct attack from the first bend in the road - not a good choice! Returned via wall route as mentioned by other (and wiser) visitors. Good viewpoint, worth the effort.

Fantastic views. A word of caution if you wish to park at gliding centre. When I went there was an open gate on track near the road but it had a shiny chain and padlock attached so did not wish to risk being locked in. Also, there was a locked bar across the turning for the gliding centre so no access.

Parked at entrance to gliding club (NX 886619). Leave track at firebreak (NX 893620) - gritty surface, to stagnant pond, then to wall. Good path up wall. Leave wall on narrow firebreak (NX895616) - marked by me with and orange strip tied to tree. Once on heather moor, path less distinct in parts. Route attached.

vgc, metal cap, wide raised letters. Beside large ancient cairn (its base is about at FB level) and remains of stone building (mapped shooting box). From SW, forest road doubles as gliding club access and is driveable albeit a bit rutted currently. Previous visit 12nov99 (for the SubMarilyn) I was able to make a beeline from the track over heathery slabby slopes. This time, with maturing spruces, followed old track from NX892620 for a few m to pond, then S to wall, path SW to bealach, then path thru trees to summit, becoming faint and hard work higher up. Cold wind, hazy view.
