Third visit, third different start point - approached from SW at Winter's Gibbet. Tough slog through fresh wet snow across Steng Moss, although surrounding hills looked remarkably snow free. Suspect this route is a bit of slog at the best of times. No further timber felling of timber since last visit in 2020 but the TP is now as white as the snow that covered it. ~~ 09/10/20 My second visit, different route, and not a route described in any report below, but one I'd recommend. Took the gated 'No Through Road' from Elsdon to Whitlees, parked at the track junction about 400m W of Whitlees Cottage and followed the RH track round the N side of Harry's Wood and followed it almost to the TP, took a minor diversion E to Manside Cross itself along the W - E footpath that runs parallel with the route we'd taken through a broad firebreak. Finally we crossed the earthworks to the TP. What a transformation since last visit in March 2017. Glorious views now from the SW to the NE where before there was nothing to see but a wall of spruce. Returned to the start down the fire break footpath, great views and pretty easy going. BTW there are no padlocked gates or barriers anywhere along the decent tracks we walked, so it is perfectly possible to drive to within 100m of the TP if you so desired...jus' saying...

Not as easy as you think. Navigating to this looks straight forward on the map.Recommend you do not follow the forest edge from Winter's Gibbet,as I did. It's very muddy and navigation to the pillar was problematic. I returned via the asphalt track from Harwood Head.It is much easier. Suggest future baggers start at Harwood Head ny972907 and walk NE 2km along the asphalt track till you see a pile of chippings that has yellow painted arrows indicating your route. On seeing these arrows walk NW 500m uphill. Look for a gap about 20m before the quarry. This gap leads you to the earthworks. They are much bigger than I imagined. The pillar is there, west of the earthworks and above the quarry. Huddled close to trees. Spider intact. Really pleased to find this one. Glad I stuck it out to find and seek.

Walked in from the bottom of the road sign-posted to Harwood and followed the St Oswald's Way path through the hamlet of Harwood - it would save 5 minutes walk there and back to drive up and park in Harwood itself. After about 400m the StOW track crosses another track and then about another 300m beyond on the left is a Forestry Commission 'Ride' which we ventured up. The going was soft in places and the avenue of larch trees fairly interminable but the otherwise featureless ride was punctuated with 'Furlong' Marker posts - at the 7 Furlong marker you come out at another main track. Turn right and after 100m there is a T junction of tracks, turn sharp left back on yourself and cross a small wooden footbridge and a stile into a broad firebreak through the forest. There is a feint path through the rough and in places wet firebreak which gradually ascends to the marker stone that was once Manside Cross, turning left to follow the fence up over an area of old earthworks the TP is easily found. Sadly it offers no views but larch trees in all directions! There is a decent view W from Manside Cross, and the return down the firebreak offers good views of Coatyards and Greenleighton TPs. Once back at the stile we continued E along the main track which after about 300m turns S back to Harwood, and the views S between the trees on this track before you start to descend are extensive. A good walk but the lack of any views from the TP itself was a bit of a disappointment.

looked awful on the map but surprisingly easy to find. Parked at 959 926 next to surfaced forest road, from there picked up PROW up through what used to be the fire break, but it has recently been felled apart from the last 500m or so. Then picked up track not on the map but took us right to the trig. Unseasonably warm and muggy and very very wet under foot, that was the deciding factor on return route which was all forest track, although longer it was quicker and much drier!
