This was one of my favourite walks. Something incredibly therapeutic and calming about these moors. Lovely morning stroll from roadside parking by the Prow up past the cork stone and onto the trig. Took a circular route around the moors

Parked on Birchover Road at sk 242692. Andie Stone to west is on private land so took a photo from road. Then headed east following PrOW to Cork Stone then on to the pillar which is situated in heather moorland. Still in good condition and spider top intact. Then on to the scheduled monument of 9 Ladies Stone Circle. It looks like there could have been a tenth stone- now lying on ground. My 600th trig to date. What a lovely place to celebrate.

One of three trigs bagged in the south of the Peak District. Parked in the free car park just up the road from the Druid Walk and had a short but very pleasant walk to the pillar passing the bronze age gritstone landmark along the way. Standing about 10ft tall it has had a recent conversion to a climbing wall. The foundations of the pillar are largely exposed but it retains its original spider and is in otherwise good condition. Great views all round.

Parked at SK252637 and walked to trig via Nine Ladies stone circle and the Cork Stone. There is a direct path from the Cork Stone to the trig. Nice views, plenty of inscribed stones, quarrying remains etc in the area to visit.

A superb upland area to explore, do try to visit the Earl Grey Tower, Cork Stone and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle (a Pagan and Druid honey pot)...not to mention the pillar which is north of the Cork Stone and sits on a very flat plateau. Fray Bentos are still alive and producing pies and other items, sadly not corned beef. I gift this pillar to the shepherd who gave the name to to the town and brand in the 1800s.

In an area known as Stanton Moor. Parked on Lees Road. Took the public right of way (PRoW). From the PRoW, I took a footpath, which is not actually marked on OS Maps, but which takes you straight up to the pillar.

A wet and foggy early start in Birchover thankfully the day cleared, visited the awesome Rowtor Rocks and Druid's caves before crossing Stanton Moor to the 9 ladies stone circle and the trig point, Then a short drive to Bakewell for a few hours at the Christmas Market

Checked out of the Sandpiper Hotel in Chesterfield and drove over the moor to Rowsley. Parked at the Outlet and walked up via Sheepwalk Wood. Stanton Moor is lovely, has extra interest with its stone circle and Cork stone, but is very popular, so I didn't get to be alone at the trigpoint. The best bit for me was spotting Oker Hill trig where I went yesterday. A lower trig, but one I enjoyed more proving height isn't everything above trig solitude. This one has an exposed base but otherwise good condition.

Why isn't it just called Stanton Moor? Weird. Anyway, visited during a very pleasant walk with wife and dog from Birchover up to the Nine Ladies stone circle and back. It's a rather lovely bit of countryside sitting up there, I'm amazed I've never been before.

Short walk from road, heather moorland with gritstone boulders. The nearby Cork Stone is worth a visit, metal rungs assist ascent.

I'm back after my emergency trip to Xinjiang, China. Five weeks to get my son out of intensive care and into a hospital in the UK. I am now broke! So. Simple pleasures. She had a strike day and convinced me to give hospital visits a miss. Glad she did. Parked on the road above Birchover and did an anti-clockwise route. Thought about climbing the Cork Stone, but under the circumstances declined. Nine Ladies interesting. Was this solstice as much as a untidy mess as last year apparently was? Some guys huddled around a campfire at 2-o'clock on a Thursday. Are campfires at these places a good thing? Lots and lots of signs of them happenning recently. Trig point was OK, but I'm just so glad to be back and this was easy stuff. Faced up to the Cork Stone again and decided to give it a go. Fell after 2 feet! Another day maybe. All too much. Druids Inn excellent. Nearly toasted Ken Barlow then I remembered!

Lovely walk across the moor from Birchover Stone Co. Added bonus of Nine Ladies Stone Circle (very atmospheric) and Reform Tower (in honour of Earl Grey of tea fame). Good views across to Oaker but otherwise a bit hazy with smoke in the air. All s/holes exc N open, some erosion round base but otherwise exc cond, metal cap shallow letters. [My 250th trig on here, but sadly early records still missing so no idea what real number is].

I walked here from the Nine Ladies stone circle passing a point where a fire had just broken out and was spreading rapidly in the strong wind. Someone was on the phone to the fire brigade so I passed on the grid reference. By the time I got to the pillar, the fire was quite extensive. The pillar is in good condition and presents good views.

Easily accessible and highly visible. Joint visit with Carole. Parked at footpath entrance on road to west near disused New Park Quarry. Basically followed walked footpaths to pillar. Everything in good condition and still has indented plug. Loveley area and obviously a lovely place to visit.

A lovely walk up from Rowsley past the Nine Ladies stone circle and the Earl Grey Tower. Great views from the top, especially towards Matlock and Riber Castle. Trig in good condition other than extensive erosion around the base. Must be a foot taller than it used to be.

Situated on Stanton Moor, this trigpoint is currently surrounded by swathes of heather, but fortunately there is a convenient footpath cut through them. TP has had its sides filled but is otherwise intact and offers great views all around. (Will upload photos when we return home on 21st August)

Done after GC1C09 - i'm sure some of the bumps around the top are higher than the trig point. Seemed to be in good condition but didn't stop long as I was hungry and it was way past lunchtime.

Stanton Moor by itself should be unimpressive when compared to much of the other local moorland. However it is truly spectacular - not only is there the Nine Ladies Stone circle, but also the Cork Stone to climb up and much else of archeological interest.

Another orienteering visit, used the pillar as an attack point for control 1. Still looks OK, but the base is eroded showing foundation concrete all around. As always, Stanton Moor was a lovely place to visit. Would have had a good run, but eventually I got lost in the quarries.

Lovely snowy day.. Picnic in the woods near the Nine ladies and all the muddy paths frozen solid. Winter perfection. Then back home to see the first Lord of the Rings film. Fascinating place, good orienteering area as well.

White pillar on rock base in heather of Stanton Moor. Interesting area with visits to Cork Stone, Nine Ladies Stone Circle, Tower, and King's Stone included in the expedition.
