An evening walk from Walker Fold car park to Old Harpers and Whimberry Hill trigpoints. Up Burnt Edge and then back across to the Old Harpers trigpoint avoiding the deer fences. Then across to Dean Mills Reservoir on the path, just then a 0.3 mile walk over the access land to the Whimberry Hill trigpoint, as the light was fading and a beautiful view over the Bolton skyline. Took the faint path from the ROW at the end of the deer fence over to the trigpoint here.

Easy to reach from SD65131 12442 via Prow across Wilder’s Moor and White Brow. Near the trig, fencing to protect saplings does have gates and the trig itself is accessible. The walk could be extended to include the trig on Winter Hill, returning via Rivington Moor and Pike.

Parked on Slack Hall track then a Short walk through a fenced off area to protect saplings from the local deer. Red Roses are fading a bit but still visible on all 4 sides.

Visiting family in the area so took my cousin for his first Trig Point. Parked up at the Matchmoor Lane viewpoint and took the FP towards Winter Hill. There is anew arrangement now where the saplings have been fenced off to protect them from the local deer. Anyhow, all it means is that you have to go through a couple of gates to the field beyond the TP and then head back at about 45 to get to it. Great views Eastwards of Manchester with the Pennines beyond and as far as Snowdonia to the South West. Simply retraced steps back to the car and had a beer in The Blundell Arms afterwards.

3rd trig of an 11 mile walk. Quick visit to this one as there were cattle and calves within a few metres. Lovely pattern of red roses on the pillar which looks in pretty good nick. The views weren't the best I've ever seen but an enjoyable visit nonetheless.

Parked on Matchmoor Lane. Took the public right of way (PRoW) from there (which required climbing over the new tall stile). From the PRoW, walked through a gate into the trig field, and then walked up to the pillar. The cap is missing from the spider.

Trig can be seen from Matchmoor Ln but required us to stray off a public footpath to get there. The public footpath had recently been enclosed by fencing to protect tree seedlings from dear. Signs on the gates indicate that you can go through them.

Started from Georges Lane opposite the Jolly Crofters and made our way to Matchmoor Lane and found the trig from there. Also went on to bag Whimberry Hill Trig

Access from parking on Matchmoor Lane. What a grim bit of road. Looks like everybody comes up here to throw their rubbish out of the car window. Easy log from the PROW heading NW, bit boggy under foot. Still has a reasonable white coat and adorned with the red rose to all faces. Plug removed otherwise all metalwork intact. Excellent views to the SE and reasonable visibility today.

from the litter strewn parking area followed the footpath and across field to Trig, which is situated in an area of very rough grazing close to a broken wall and a telegraph pole, the trig is in good condition and has recently been repainted , ( I removed the wet paint signs) The cap is open and all sight holes are closed the fb faces 232m 360 views mainly Winter Hill , Bolton and Manchester, returned same - 500yds

Very easy to find, less than a 5 minute walk from Matchmoor Lane. Great for views over Bolton and Manchester to the south, TV masts on Winter Hill to the north.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 10th May 1940 costing £2.4s.1d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SD80/31 within the Manchester block during 1945. Levelled for height in 1963. Last maintained by the OS in August 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Easy parking on layby on SE side of Matchmoor Lane at SD668120. Up via mapped RoW opposite until level with pillar then straight across open grazing field. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces SW, ~231°. Vented through NE sight hole. 360° open outlook.

The last one I had time for before going to the match. Huddled near to a dry-stone wall quite close to the parking spot on the lane. Very tricky underfoot [and a hairy drive along the lane as well!] The pillar is in good condition apart from a missing plug. Traces of paint. All sightholes closed. By now the snow had stopped and the gloom was beginning to lift, so the views of the moors and surrounding urban areas were apparent.
