Parked to east of hill on A39 road near gate onto footpath and roadway up to mast. Over low wire onto roadway. Approaching summit started to get worried that the pillar might be inside the very well defended mast enclosure. Map indicated pillar being to south west of mast, fortunately beyond to fence of the compound and straight forward to access. Top slightly chipped, spider with plugged cap. OS plaque in place. Brilliant views all around apart from to north obscured by mast and buildings. Turns out mast is also a TP, two for one.

The nearby mast is not MoD, it is the Mendip TV transmitter, 589 feet high. It was being repainted around the time of my visit, and the contractors had left the gate at the A39 open, so I was able to drive close to the pillar. No workmen were around this late on a Sunday. Just as well, as a large exclusion zone suggests that paint drips may carry some distance. The pillar is just outside the exclusion zone.
