Not the most pleasant of tasks. Muddy doesn't quite cut it and I was almost run down by dirt bikers whilst trying to take a shameful selfie. Relieved to have found it on the first visit. Can't give any further directions on how to find it because I'm sure it was pure luck after trying numerous horrible dirt tracks. Good luck!

(Seriously, wear wellies for this one if there hasn't been a drought.) Accessed from the single track road from the south east. Perhaps other routes are drier...

Found this at the second attempt. The trick is knowing that it sits on a grass verge along the mudbath lane that joins the track that leads down the hill towards Ogbourne. Also it is obscured by a tree making spotting it even more difficult. What helped (not for the first time) were the very useful notes left by other baggers. Had I read these in the first place.....oh well. So a bit of a feeling of triumph when i corrected my mistake.

Walked from Mildenhall village, having already walked to TP2368 from here. Up a quiet lane - we disturbed deer on two separate occasions and numerous pheasants. Then up on to the downs via bridleways. Glorious views at the top - but not from the pillar enclosed by trees down a earthen rutted track.

We approached this one from the W (Ogbourne St Andrew). Parked where the byway meets the A346 (approx. SU193725), right where there is a blue sign that says "Unsuitable for motor vehicles". We had to park right up against the side so as not to block the byway. As it turned out, a couple of 4x4s came along shortly after we parked up and they had to squeeze past our car. Not the best place to park. Then we walked E along the byway. Very muddy around the trig! Trig in good condition, original metal cap, FB faces the hedge (i.e. away from the path) so I cleared the area a bit with my secateurs to be able to photograph the FB. Tip for future visitors: a better place to park would be the car park of the nearby pub Silks On The Downs, or the local roads in Ogbourne St Andrew.

3 of 4. Enjoyed a 47.3mph descent toward Ogbourne before turning left up the "Roman Road" back onto the ridge. The byway right to the trig was just passable - muddy and churned by FWD which had torn down some branches. Pillar is by the track, the surrounding overgrown hedges obscuring any views. Track heading South toward Marlborough much better and mostly rideable.

The pillar stands next to the southern hedge of a narrow byway on the Marlborough Downs to the north of the town. The trig has FB S6210 facing into the hedge and its spider is plugged by a metal cap with deep lettering. It was reached by means of byways from the minor road to the south east. At the time of my visit the rights of way were mostly baked hard underfoot. The site is in an area of gently rolling downland of large arable fields but the view from the trig is obscured by the hedges of the byway. From nearby fields Martinsell and the Pewsey Downs could be seen to the south with the hazy outline of the northern fringe of Salisbury Plain in the distance. To the north could be seen the edge of the Marlborough Downs overlooking lower, flatter land that disappeared into a hazy horizon.
