Parked at the Saw mill car park and walked up the Bridleway to the copse. Went over the wooden gate but I went up to early on the ridge and had another bracken fest wade to the pillar. Only views to one side the trig is in mint condition. The last trig of the trip beat the weather just.

Retrospective log. Part of a cycle route and my notes state permission was granted from an estate worker to visit the trig. Awful devastation from yet another victim of Arwen and as NJM states the replanted trees will takes years to regrow.

This took some getting to! As mentioned by the previous finder the area has been decimated by the storm. Today they are working in the copse to clear it but it meant scrambling over numerous logs and branches once we left the adjacent field. It was certainly not easy but great to see the trig has not suffered.

My third visit, different route, from the N, from the lane W of Gatherick. This visit was prompted by a picture of TP5436 (Piers Knowe) posted a week ago showing the damage done by Storm Arwen, which made me wonder about a condition of some of my local pillars housed in plantations on the Northumberland Coast that really would have taken the brunt of the weather. Once S of Pig's Plantation the devastation visited on Rhodes Hill by Storm Arwen was apparent - the woods have been decimated. Inside the plantation the carnage is unbelievable and I fully expected that the pillar would be buried under piles of prone trees, and probably smashed to bits too. Took about 30 minutes clambering through an almost impossible assault course to reach the highest point of the hill, and there, amazingly intact, was the pillar. 18 months ago I described Rhodes Hill as "A very pleasant, tranquil woodland location." - it will never be that again, certainly not in my lifetime! ~~ 14/06/20: My second visit, same route as previous starting from Letham Hill Sawmill. Last time I was here there was a wind-blown tree at a 45 degree angle perilously close to the TP but it has fallen flat without causing any damage to the TP. A very pleasant, tranquil woodland location.

Up the usual route along the track from from the Smithy. No access issues in walking along this track as its part of the Ford & Etal circular walk route.Trig almost hidden in chest high bracken, which hides all sorts of trip hazards beneath it. No views to speak of from the pillar, nice views across the borderlands from outside the trees. The Cheviot Brewery is half a mile up the road at Slainsfield. A quick stop at the nearby Heatherslaw narrow gauge railway to watch the trains whilst we had our well deserved coffee.
