1st one for today. It looks like I was 2 hours behind ADT. It feels good to know I wasn't the only person to visit this trig today. The pillar is in excellent condition, no doubt protected somewhat by the nearby wall. I approached from the Southwest up along a seemingly little used footpath from Burnley Road. Next a long traipse to Black Hameldon via Cant Clough Reservoir.

Bridestones Moor & Robin Cross Hill trig pillars. Parking just off The Long Causeway for both. First a large parking area at Keb Bridge, then a lay-by at SD 882 296 (opposite a sign reading “Stone Wall Smith, Dry Stone Walling”). Bridestones are worth a revisit but on a much warmer day!

Parked in a lay-by on the side of The Long Causeway. The area around the entrance to the trig field was an absolute mud bath. Once in, the route up to the pillar was very boggy, but made it in the end.

Long multi reservoir walk from Ponden reservoir. Easily accessed from a footpath on the Long Causeway road. Trigpoint in very good condition with pretty good views.

K Swerved off footpath to bag trig near field wall. Clearly this corner can get boggy from the tractor treads in the turf, which the recent sunny weather has dried out making the ground ankle turning. Good view over Burnley and Pendle Hill prominent.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety on view from this trig. From the rocky outcrops of Thieveley Scout (SW), to urban Burnley (NW),Pendle (N) a reservoir (NE) and bleak moorland (SE). A quick jog from The Long Causeway.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 3rd May 1948 costing £11.14s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE02/T39 in 1948. Levelled for height in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in October 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from the north. Convenient layby to SW side of public road at SD884295. Followed adjacent RoW into open grazing field then took direct route southwards along edge to pillar. Trig to west side boundary wall no boundary crossing necessary. Column in good condition. Spider fitted with plastic cap by JWR, 25/06/2000. Flush bracket faces west, ~271°. Vented through east and west sight holes, bolt silhouette viewable. Full 360° panoramic view includes Pendle Hill.

Has the OS placed the trig symbol in the wrong position on the map? It's much closer to the wall than the position it's shown at on the current South Pennines Explorer map. Perhaps the error occurred when they reinstated the trig symbol after omitting it from some editions?

Done on a long walk fron Toddy via Mount Cross, the Wind Farm, Holme Chapel, Theiveley Pike and a load of messing about on bridleways and footpaths to return to Toddy. About 16 miles hike. Pollution smog made rubbish views but the trigs in great condition.

Visible with easy access in same field as footpath and near to Long Causeway road. Past on a circular walk from Todmorden on a wet, windy, chilly day so pillar and location not seen at their best. Pillar is in good condition with plastic plug. Another of those where one is left wondering where the name came from?

There were some very new born lambs in the field when I approached the trig including one sheltering just behind the trig. A nice experience.

Trig is in excellent condition especially considering it's close proximity to the road. Views across Lancashire to Pendle Hill. The trig is not shown on my 1996 O.S. South Pennines map but is on the earlier 1984 and 1978 versions (the removal of the blue triangle makes it look like the wall is missing to the South of the trig).
