A high marking for this pillar since it sums the day up completely. A fantastic winters day, superb conditions and light. Walking the Kendal Limestone Way and rejigged the start from Skipton to go over DHW ( last ran in 3 days in 2013). Good decision. The only people I saw all day were on this pillar. Gifted to the £2 bus fares introduced nationally, Kendal to Skipton was £4.

Parked on the sharp bend of Bog Lane and set off on the Dales High Way. Soon veered off to the left to avoid a herd of suckler cows but didn't loose sight of the top. The bench by the wall just below the summit is placed in an inspired position. Fine drizzle in the air restricted views today but didn't spoil the walk. We dropped down to a gate in the corner to the west and headed back to Bog Lane via the good track through Crag Wood. On reaching the car found out that No2 grandson had been delivered at 14.56 while I was stood next to the pillar. Welcome to the world Jenson William.(son-in-law is a F1 fan!)

We took in Crag Wood, Sharpah (Sharp Haw) and both ends of Rough Haw to complete a fine round of Flasby Fell. The pillar has a chunk missing from one base corner, and the foundations have been exposed by the eroding soil, but it is in otherwise good condition. Fine views across Airedale, over to Cracoe Fell and beyond. Unfortunately the rain, wind and cold affected the pictures quite badly on this one.
