Pulled over at entrance to farm about two hundred and fifty metres south of Seven Stones Cross on B3392. Couldn’t quite see pillar from the road but after entering field on west side of the road it was visible about two hundred metres to the west. OS first series sheet 202 shows a footpath across the field to TP although couldn’t see any signs for it now. Pillar on top of plinth. Raised S prefix. Spider and cap in place.

Pillar in excellent condition but plinth badly damaged. Easy access from the lane. In the middle of a harvested field in a featureless landscape.

In the middle of a wheat field so didn't get close. Very prominent on the hill top with the base fully exposed. Saw a shrew and a large dog fox on the run up the footpath approach.

From minor road to NE. Trig, on large plinth, sits in middle of arable field currently full of neeps. Plinth detriorating badly and pillar likely to topple in near future but stable at present. Original top cap retained, indented lettering; FB is of the 'BSM' style; rear sight hole open. 360deg views but nothing stunning.

I spotted this one on the skyline as I headed north up the B3392 but accessed it from the lane on the north side as the footpath is no longer very helpful. The field had recently been ridged (for potatoes?) but was dry and fairly easy to walk between the ridges to the pillar. The pillar is mounted on a structure that presumably was once in a hedgeline, but the south side is badly broken up exposing the bottom of the pillar, but it still seems secure.

Great location - perfectly visible on skyline for over 1km when approaching from north on minor road from Modbury. Couldn't get closer than 150m though due to recently seeded field. I will return! Update 29/3/09 - I did return - this time a mature braccia crop was in place - I will return again !

We followed tractor tracks up through chest high oil seed rape to reach this one. The footpath itself has been diverted to the field edge opposite the entrance to Tuffland, where we parked. The pillar's OK but the large plinth it is sat on is very badly damaged, although the farmer is still giving it quite a wide berth. I didn't notice the views as I was dazzled by the sulphurous yellow stuff. Plug with indented lettering.
