3 of 6 drive/cylce trigging. (Time is approximate, I lost my ruddy notes.) Thanks, BasilDowl, you managed to get to it and it gave me the persistence to get it. Stopped first for a cuppa and a bite to eat at Kirkby Overblow church, couldn't resist the place with a name like that. Parked in a miniature layby on a surprisingly busy back lane near the trig. Walked up and down by the wall and spotted the gate smothered by ivy, I hate the stuff, it's spreading everywhere. From memory, the gate is approximately 100 paces S from the start of the stone wall, but no way could I count any paces further S to the trig for the bramble, nettle and triffids lashing my legs...I was in shorts. But it was worth it: there were no distant views but the near jungle setting in the sunlight seemed to make up for it. I spent 5 mins ripping the ivy climbing up the trig. Extra leg lashing on the way back to the gate and on to Wetherby FBM further S, the views W from the ridge are surprisingly good. Thanks again, BasilDowl and your little helper.

After a family walk along the Wharfe from Weeton to Harewood and back, we nipped up to Kirkby Overblow so that my little trigbagger could bag this one. I last visited in winter, and the jungle was bad even then. Today it was nigh-on impenetrable. It took us three passes to even see the gate (directly opposite where the wall on the other side of the road turns north-east at a corner and meets a fence) then to squeeze through the thorns and nettles and scrabble over the gate... to be met by a carpet of waist-high nettles and brambles... and my little companion in a dress... there was nothing to do but plonk her on my shoulders and battle bravely through. You take a left turn from the gate, and the trig is 100m or so to the south-east. The pillar is still safely hidden from the road in this lush no-man's land, and with a lot of ivy covering it, it has a real sylvan charm to it. Pillar #24 for BasilDowl Jnr. Spotted (just!) between Wetherby FBM and the WWHMIII event in Harrodate. I pulled up along side the trig, and managed to find it in the hedge. I could just reach to touch it, but there was no chance of finding the flush bracket under all that ivy. I had a deadline to meet, so I didnt look for a gate into the field.

Fairly easy access from the gate 40 yards north of the trig which is in danger of becoming overgrown (see photo and imagine the summer growth). Poor visibility today so I wouldnt take too much notice of the score. REVISIT 03/08/2008: if its a view your after come in the winter as the summer foilage has all but blocked any kind of view from the trig. As expected the gate is getting more overtaken by the hawthorn bushes and brambles.

There is a gate to the field just a little to the north, left unsecured at the time of my visit. It was a murky afternoon so I didn't get much of a view. The plug is missing. GR to 10 m only.
