Easy access off Stanhill Rd through some new metal kissing gates. A nice airy viewpoint to look down onto the M65 and the urban sprawl of the Blackburn area. The pillar sits in the middle of surprisingly well farmed meadows

This evening I had a walk around 3 Accrington trigpoints, Duckworth Hill, Stanhill and Bottoms Farm. All were a little off the ROWs but easily reached without any issues, some nice viewpoints. It was necessary to climb over the gate, and a short walk to the trigpoint.

Revisit, arrived Oswaldtwistle via 06.59 M5 Earby to Colne bus 07.55 Colne to Blackburn train. On short trip out BM hunting along the way. My last log for a month or so depending on recovery time due to Major Surgery this coming Monday.

The closest access point is c100m from the trig due to it being on private land & inaccessible (without climbing the locked gate)

1st Trig of 5 for today. Part of a 10 mile hike starting at Oswaldtwistle Mills. As stated by others, reaching the pillar involved a departure from the footpath and climbing a gate. Although I later discovered that the trig field could be accessed further along without the need to climb it. Very boggy under foot. The pillar itself is uninspiring and the views not that spectacular (M65) Onwards to Duckworth Hill

Parked on Stanhill Road. Took the public right of way (PRoW) up to SD 72503 27916. Left the PRoW at this point and headed north west up to the pillar, which involved climbing over a gate into the trig field

HISTORY: Pillar completed 30th June 1948 costing £14.8s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD74/T45 in 1948. Levelled for height in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in October 1979. SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Easy parking on Stanhill Road around SD727277. Followed mapped RoW network to southeast corner of trig field then beeline to top. Empty field of grass and dandelions. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre contains a grey plastic cap, fitted 28/05/2000 by JWR. Flush bracket faces north, ~8°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. 360° open outlook.

Used footpath to see trig. Field in private sheep field. Asked permission from man beside 4 wheel drive vehicle. Granted so over one gate and through a second gate while man watched on. He then opened the gate for me on the way down.

Passed very close with my walking group - The Irregulars, LDWA - whilst walking a section of The Hyndburn Clog. An early morning visit and as the photographs show it was a late dawn. Pillar in good condition but with plastic plug. Good viewpoint for street lighting!

In empty pasture field - again very soggy! Plastic plug replacement and quite a lot of faded paint. South sight-hole open, others closed. Concrete base exposed about 4" all round. Good N/NE views on a glorious day!
