Took the longer route from Kingshouse. Amazing views over to Loch Rannoch, Blackwater, Mamores and Glencoe hills. Very windy once on the peat bogs.

Parked in the station car park (free). Followed the hard packed track to Glen Coe till it splits right in to the plantation. Up this to the end of the mapped track at NN411585 where an ATV track winds it way to the top of Meall Liath Na Doire and stops at the top. Across the moor to the saddle between Meall Liath Na Doire and Meall a Bhuirich. There are a few peat hags to negotiate here but they can easily be walked around or jumped over. Up to the top of Meall a Bhuirich where there are 3 memorials, then across the next low point following a ATV track which disappears and appears till it goes completely. There are a few more peat hags to negotiate which are a little bit bigger than the last set. Up to the trig from here. Picked up the ATV track at the top of the hill and followed it all the way back to the ROW to Glen Coe, from here back to the car park. The heather, general foliage, bog is not to bad. The heather is not to tall, the grasses are short in places where there growing over rock (unlike the Kielder Reservoir Valley) and the bog is not bottomless if you miss your footing (unlike TP1346 - Beul Na Faire). Cup of tea and really really good piece of cake from the tea room at Rannoch Station, open 0830-1630, for the drive home.

From Rannoch Station - track SW then thru' forest ( a battle) and over moor (peat hags and bogs). According to hill-bagging.co.uk there is an old ATV up the burn at NN397569. I came across an ATV once on the ridge.

From Rannoch Station, forest track to SW end of forest then slog up thru heather. Walk back along tops much nicer - with bogs semi frozen.

Quite a slog to get to it but well worth it for the view on a fine day. Cycled up from Glencoe, parked the bike at Black Corries Lodge and finished on foot via Meall a Phuill and Stob nan Losgann. Only one of the replaced screws (how considerate!) in fasgadh's photo still remains.

Glorious weather, fantastic views! Dry conditions a big advantage for crossing the moor, even by the road in from Kingshouse. Sadly the lowlife scumbag with an allen key had recently visited, with the screws kindly replaced. Little damage visible to the concrete sleeve, so it was a recent attack. The shit is now targetting smaller hills. Big views all around Rannoch Moor.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 20th May 1959 costing £9.3s.1½d. This triangulation pillar was a 'distomat' observed station and was computed as tertiary triangulation station NN44/2 in 1959. The distomat stations were only fixed by observing distances and not angles, unlike other stations that were fixed by angle and distance methods. The flush bracket was levelled for height also in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in July 1982. SITE VISIT: Parked at Rannoch Station. Followed estate track west to roughly NN398570, up through woods then via open moor to aim for bealach, then along county boundary to summit. Vanessa in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces southwest, ~233°. Vented through SW and SE sight holes. Spectacular 360° panorama over a wilderness to a mountainous skyline. This really is in the middle of nowhere, good weather conditions are essential to fully appreciate the surroundings.
