Parking and route as 'thejackrustles'. One investment for this holiday was the mozzie face hood and the Smidge spray. Money well spent just for doing this trig!!

YSM0108 Tannach Hill. Parked at ND 32055 48519 and followed track until the firebreak at ND 30295 47556. Very hot! Plagued by flies from trigpoint all the way back to the track and got a lovely cleg bite for my troubles!

Caithness 3rd Order Pillars complete! I didn't expect this walk to be anything special - I was wrong. I parked in the forest car park on the Blingery track off the Thrumster-Haster road. It was just after sun-up and the whole way up the forest road I was serenaded by songbirds. A divine perfume filled the air and the morning sun played light & shade on the trees. The firebreak that leads to the clearing where the trig sits was a carpet of shining dew drops and the pine trees themselves glistened with water droplets whilst the early mist slowly burned off. The pillar is in good order other than hairline cracks across it. All fixings are in place. No view as such in its spacious clearing but what a lovely 'bag'. I returned the same way.

YSM108 Tannach Hill. Wasn't quite sure how to start this one as my plan from google earth didn't quite work out as I ended up someone's driveway. Went around the wee roads and found the proper track. Drove up it to approx 680m left at a good spot to park. Then walked further up the track and spotted a good treebreak. Followed this which was a bit boggy underfoot and it went straight to the pillar which is in the middle of a clearing.

Made a meal of getting to this one as I foolishly thought trainers would be enough for the terrain, luckily I got away with only damp feet and didn’t get totally soaked. Took the car as far as I dared up the rough truck and parked just off the track about 0.40 miles from the pillar. Found a firebreak and followed it into the trees but chose the wrong firebreak so had to double back to the trig by using another firebreak. Found the pillar easily enough and managed to chose the correct firebreak to get back to the main track.

Fine cracking to surface of pillar; metal cap, deep letters. Large clearing at junction of rides, as per 1:25k map: easily found. From ESE, fenceline starting S of house: heathery but path much of the way.
