Used the rail service from Hellifield to Morecambe and alighted at Bare Lane Station for the short walk to the trig. Then caught a bus into Morecambe for a spot of lunch before catching the train back to Lancaster to bag Brookholme trig. Great fun with lots of lovely scenery en route.

One of eleven trigs bagged in the Lancaster Morcambe area, on the way to Kendal. This was the ninth. Parked Hexham Road. Facing uphill, follow the PROW on the left. Almost immediately there is a stile on the right with the pillar at the top of the hill. Views towards Morecambe Bay & the south of The Lake District. Ashton Memorial is also easy to spot on the skyline. The top of the pillar alonwith the spider is missing. Someone has taken the trouble to paint what's left of the pillar.

Parked on Hexham road. Walked along and footpath until i found a suitable place to climb over and up to the trig. I would have taken the footpath into the trig field directly but the moo were sheltering from the storm in that corner

The good news is that someone loves this injured mass of concrete. I parked up on Hexham Road nipped over the style and walked the short distance to the pillar. Thankfully, No Bull! The pillar had recently had a good lick of paint and the artist had taken much care to spare the ironwork. Very nice views over the bay and inland towards Bowland. All in all a very nice 10 minutes. Had a beer in the Rotunda Bar at the Art Deco Midland Hotel afterwards.

Looking out over the northern bay. Nice new paint job for the pillar.

Walked from Warton crag and red bank, looks a bit sorry for its self, the bull ran over and stopped a few inches from me! Seemed very friendly he only looked a young guy but beware probably weighs more than a car !

Park on Hexham Road and a short stroll to the top of the hill. There was a warning sign that there is a Bull in the field, but I didn't see one. Trig is damaged at the top. Good all round views, but nothing spectacular.

Glorious day. Walked up from Bare station, up Hexham Road and into the field. Coffe and cake at the trig point wathing the trains on the West Coast railway. Walked back down through the woods. Lovely morning out.

Top decapitated, spider missing and centre pipe protruding through the cracked concrete but grateful still to be standing and receiving plenty of visits. Cow pasture with easy access via stile from footpath on W side of Hill. Superb views and a very fine afternoon of blue skies and WSW breeze.

Badly damaged pillar atop a barrow on a local high point. The top third of the pillar has been destroyed. FB faces south-east-ish with north-west-ish sighthole open only. Excellent views over Lancaster and the estuary.

Surprised at the view here, sure it isn't as good as some of the lakeland peaks but its alot easier to get to and still a great place for a short walk. Significant portion of the pillar is missing.

Interesting place - a badly damaged trig and a Bronze Age barrow on top of a drumlin. Very easy access and excellent 360deg panorama, including Ingleborough peeping over the top, so marks for ease of access and views if not trig condition!

Looks like the concrete carnivore has been visiting, for once seeing this damaged trig is not too annoying/upsetting. Lovely to escape the cloud for a few hours and a prehistoric barrow too. Also a "registered hill" strangely. Down to Morecambe afterwards, looking better than it has done, excellent sculpture of the Lake District mountains -not that any are visible today - then off to the lighthouse via Eric.

A friendly local walked with us to the trig past the cows. Lucky for us as the field was full of them. The trig is badly damaged but in a great position with lovely views from all angles. Only a short walk from the roadside.

Was hoping for a nice sunset over Morecambe Bay, which wasn't to be. Instead faced east to admire the new Lancaster bypass now only a fortnight off opening after being originally proposed in 1938. We turned west again to contemplate a barrage/tunnel to Barrow within the next 75 years,The poor old pillar has been badly beaten up; a victim of its easy accessibility

Short walk across cattle pasture from local residential road. Pillar has taken a beating with the top section badly damaged, spider lost and central tube protruding skywards. All sight holes sealed, rear plug degrading. Nice 360deg panorama for such a low elevation.

Pillar badly damaged as previously reported, whether deliberately or accidently it's impossible to know. Good views, particularly across to Morecambe Bay. All on my own at first, when suddenly a plethora of dog-walkers appeared as if pre-arranged, completely shattering my peace, quietude and introspective harmony!

HISTORY: Pillar completed July 1949 costing £7.0s.5d. computed as secondary station SD47/36 within the Barrow-in-Furness block during 1950. Levelled for height in 1961. last maintained by the OS in May 1976. SITE VISIT: Pillar has suffered malicious damage long ago but what remains has undergone repair. Whole spider removed by thieves. Flush bracket faces 121° (SE). All sight holes plugged. 270° panoramic view includes skyline profile of Lancaster, northern aspect blocked by nearby shrubbery.

Easily reached from the ROW to the west or Hasty Brow Road to the east. GBH to the head of the pillar but fine views over urban Morecambe & Lancaster, the bay, to the eastern hills (Ingleborough in the distance) & north to the snow clad southern fells of the Lake District, small hill with a big view!

Someone has taken off the top few inches of the pillar which was disappointing!! However the view from this small hill was amazing!! Not only can you see the the Ashton Memorial in Lancaster Park, snowy mountains of the lakes and Ingleborough and Whernside too!! Brilliant :o)

Poorly trig as everyone else has reported. Love to know who carried the top bit away with them, must weigh quite a bit. Anyway, easy walk up from the road and greeted with brilliant views in all directions, especially over Morecambe bay and the lakes.

This is my most local trig been up here quite a few times,a shame that its damaged. The views from here are stunning & a simple walk over the field from the stile in the fence from the top of Hexham road.

Well, where has that season gone? Our last away game and had to come here as it is a new ground for us - and terraces aswell! Great! And we won 2-1 which was an even bigger bonus. Did this, the only local trig point, plus the nearby cache at the same time. This is in awful condition with a missing top and green graffiti on the flush bracket makes the number hard to read. Anyway there are some good views over the Bay but this doesn't compensate for the sad fate that this pillar had it store for it.

Probably the worst conditioned Trig point we have ever come across,don't trigs get adopted nowadays,this could easily be restored. We were up here whilst visiting the new geocache a matter of yards from the trig.great views

Wandered up from the south with the dog walkers. Although it was a clear day, the views towards Morecambe Bay were disappointing.

Poor trig! One rarely sees one in such bad condition. Walked from a friend's house in Morcambe and then onto Hesk Bank along the canal for a nice couple of pints in the hesk Bank pub before returning along the promonade.

Now almost dark but only a short walk off the lane. Conditiona laready noted but looking at photos it seems to be stable and not getting any worse.

A footpath leads straight to the trig from the housing estate. Good view of Morecambe gasworks. Spider missing.
