Revisit. Found a better route up. Swung west after the first outcrop, missing that steep loose slope in undergrowth.

Fifth Islay Trig 2022. Parked at Machir bay and walked along the farm track through the rabbit warrens. Just before the gate turned and headed up towards the memorial. There is another gate out onto the common where you can climb up the rocky outcrop via the gulley. Couple of false tops, but trig point accessible after a bit of a steep scramble. Sat on a rock platform amid deep heather. Far reaching views inland and over the Rinns. Wasn’t expecting it, but there was a herd of red deer on top. Pillar in excellent condition with all parts intact.

From ruined church in Kilchoman. Wide, steep grassy ramp up onto the plateau. Pilar retains original centre cap, raised lettering; front sight hole sealed, other 3 open. Wet, misty views... a damp day.

With Clochandighter and coinea. I'm not going to lie - I found this a really tough one and almost in the hideous category, could have been the awful weather today? Overall approach from NNW. Ample parking at turning loop by ruined church at Kilchoman, NR215632. An unmapped farm track bypassing the cottages leads SE towards the hills. From there follow the course of an ancient dyke until that becomes water logged on both sides. A steep muddy cattle path ascends through the scrub to the left of this which leads to better ground once higher up. From there swing right to regain the correct direction towards the summit. There are intermittent hill paths through the heather to the summit. Open grazing top. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters.

The weather finally started to come in up here after having brilliant settled conditions for the previous few days. Onwards direct cross country to Sunderland Hill was a bit of a bleak trudge then.

With Martin Richardson on a windy afternoon after a wet mornig. Started from the ruined church and finished at a military cementry, with a few crags to pick your way through on the way down.
