Easy accessible from the triangle section of Werneth Low road. However, situated on private land, very close to road. Did ask the nearby farms, but no one seemed to know who owns the land the trig is on. So hopped footed it over the gate, took a few piccies and left before I was spotted

Got immediately troubled by woman g o m o l because I pulled my car into the open gates as there is no way anywhere else. Her daughter was trotting round next door field. She did its private. No patience and she said I had to move immediately so she could close gate in case daughter fell off and horse bolted out of the gate. Very likely, not. I said only be there four or five minutes and I'll be gone after that.

Had to climb over a gate to get to it. The flags are still leaning against the pillar. Not a particularly enjoyable visit to this one, but at least it is still intact.

One of three trigs bagged on the way to a night out in Manchester. A very short walk from the roadside making it pretty much a roadside bag. Views are restricted and albeit the pillar is in generally good condition it appears unloved with a collection of paving slabs leaning against it. The centre of the spider has been replaced with concrete or similar. It's always sad to see litter but additionally surprising to see so much of it on the grass triangle in the midst of what appears to be a nice area.

Walk out and back from Werneth Low Quarry car park. Easily seen from gate and as on private land (and have dodgy knee!) I chose not to climb gate into the field to get closer/touch the trig. Wet mizzly Boxing Day so not great views today.

Parked on Cowlishaw Road. Climbed over a gate from there into the field in which the pillar is located. The land owner has propped up a lot of concrete slabs against the pillar (probably only on a temporary basis)

8/8 Last trig of the day. Parked by a marvellous triangle of grass, bench and sycamore trees, the latter donated by a local worthy, and having great views SW to N. A justifiably popular place, a group of girls were chatting away. Trig is easily spotted in the field over the gate. Hartshead Pike tower there again. Homeward bound, a thoroughly enjoyable day. Reflections on the day; should have visited the tower; noticed steep roads on steep valley sides with housing made narrower by cars, lots of them; the spread of urban sprawl from E Manchester was prominent.

Ran up to the gate by the pillar and the land owners were having a fire near by. I asked them if it was okay to hop over the fence and they were very agreeable and even offered to move the truck for pictures but i thought it made it a more unusual shot and said leave it in. Nice easy one near the road with nice folk.

Came via Etherow CP and left by Wernerth CP, with perhaps the best views of Greater Manchester from this pillar and triangle parking place. An easy "leap" over the fence from a busy "rat run". Two excellent country parks visited and they are dedicated this pillar. Country Parks were formed for the purpose of introducing people to the countryside without having to go up hill and dale. These two were a shining example of this concept.

Parked at the nearby triangle in road and walked back. Looks like a new gate at track entrance, very well padlocked. Not the easiest to hop over but no problem. Trig very close down track. Surprisingly good views over the valley and Manchester. Ikea at Ashton stands out in the sunshine.

Pretty good views over Manchester from here, but better to be had from the nearby cenotaph. Feels a bit dilapidated, not as well maintained as some trigs I have seen, and located in a somewhat dreary yard.

Birthdate flush bracket trig pillar of Alan Dawson inventor of the Marilyns Hil list. After sleeping half the night on the summit slopes of his 21st birthday hill Shining tor (S2773). Have been taking a greater interest recently in the finer subtleties of the differing surfaces of the tops of pillars. One of the unique features of this one is the white dental chip filler. It's also got an awful lot of differently coloured pebbles in the concrete mix. This gives it a wonderfully knobbly/pebbly top.

Drove up the steep switchback road 2Km to the east, glad i met nothing coming the otherway. Despite the very showery weather the views across Manchester are impressive. Pillar surrounded by knee deep wet grass.

Done on a circular walk from Broadbottom having earliar visited Etherow Country Park. Easy spot just over a gate from the road. The nearby Hare and Hounds provided very pleasant refreshment and sustinance.

Second trig of the day after visiting the pillar at Higher Shelfstones. I'd walked up from the River Etherow after a long trek along from Glossop. There were interesting views of Greater Manchester to the west and the Peak District National Park to the east. I continued on to Brinnington to end a long, hard, hot day.

Learning a lot here! Meandered over Wernleth Low without doing any detailed research on Sunday to no avail. It's bigger than you think. But even on my second trip, by car this time, involved five minutes no more than twenty feet away before I spotted the pillar. Doh!
