K The first trig of the year !!!! on a steady ascent from Thornhill Trail parking area below hill to the East. Very hard work due to warm sunshine and a major lack of fitness following COVID lockdown along with twinges of the tendon above the left knee which needed stretching having had me on crutches less than 2 weeks ago. A baby bunny was hiding at the start of the FP and I descended the quiet FP N of Winhill to the side of the reservoir and walked back by the track above the waters edge so as not to overdo my knee. The summit is a nice little rocky ridge with some clambering if you like and there are good views of the surrounding hills and down to Ladybower/Yorkshire Bridge. Not the best location for self isolating though as the sunshine has brought out the crowds.

First things first. If you are new to Trigging, or new to Trigging in the Dark Peak, I suggest you head up Win Hill with a pen and notepad. From the top you can plan your next dozen or so days out. Brilliant. Getting there? Meh! Used my old fell running round trip starting from the car park by the bridge at the western end of Ladybower. Problem 1: Now gated! (I've no real gripe about anglers, but rules, rules, rules. Always rules!) Then along the south bank. After the recent downpours the reservoir starts really early making the upper reaches look like a grand, broad downstream river. Now I always had problems deciding when to clench my teeth and head uphill through the plantation. Too many dead end paths. It's even worse now, with fresh logging and new plantings. So, not actually "lost", but a struggle. Understandable. But again, on the way down, turning back into the coniferous darkness at Hope Cross, futher unnecessary thrutchings.

Been here lots of time. The sheep are very tame - they wait until you sit down, then pinch food out of your hand. Good views all round. The story is that one army fought another, the one camping on Lose Hill to the west, and coming across to attack the one on Win Hill. Obviously, they lost!
