The building only became the Royal Navy Torpedo factory later in its life and was originally built around 1905 as the offices and workshops of Argyll Motors Ltd. The dome at that time had a gold covering ! Its a place still well worth a visit - the ornate front has a carved sculpture of Victory astride a motor car, flanked by trumpet-blowing angels and inside the reception hall has a fantastic marble staircase that just has to be seen. Sadly the building is now home to a very uninspiring collection of depressing outlet shops, a total waste of a great building. Just hope some day it gets the attention it deserves and opens as a museum or anything more fitting its heritage. The old Royal Navy Torpedo Factory, just the facade left now, but what an imposing one? Our previous governments liked to do things on a grand scale! Bagged en-route to Crianlarich for the Scotland 2013 walking holiday.

Absolutely Smashing Dome, the building now used as "Loch Lomond Galleries"... just a pity that the one-way system insists on driving around the missing rear to such a fantastic facade.

Alexandria RNTF Dome ..Fantastic Facade, rotten rear.
