Route from Purdown was thrown by a road closure, so ended up almost at the ring road then managed to re route through Kingswood (lately in the news) and Hanham. Parked on residential road, Lime Road, followed sign for nature area to south west behind houses. Spotted pillar in vegetation beside access track. A bit untidy and neglected. Pushed back some of the vegetation. Spider and cap in place. Raised S prefix. No views apart from backs of houses. Probably had a good view at one time across the Avon valley to the west.

Trig pillar enthusiasts can actually get a bit anthropomorphic about these redundant bits of concrete. So here's a story about two very contrasting Bristol pillars just a kilometre apart across the River Avon, which I visited Saturday morning 14th August after an early morning crossing of the Clifton suspension bridge and wonderful display of early morning hot air balloons followed by a visit to Herbert's bakery in Montpelier /St Pauls at 7.30am for some great cheap rye sourdough bread. Both have similar situations being on tracks beind the south side of housing estates with open land behind. S3367 Broom Hill is a candidate for the saddest most unloved & neglected trig pillar in the country. Half buried up to its waist on two sides under garden waste and builders rubble, broken tiles and glass plus a bit of bramble. The back side and left, east side which has the flush bracket were a bit clearer but still had bottom part of the FB buried. I removed a number of bits of brick, plus dug it out with some bits broken tiles so I could photograph it, but I wanted even more access for nerdy artistic reasons, to spray it with WD40 and press a small slab of air dry clay into it. Having created a 'footwell' sized area of excavation, I was then able to use another bit of rubble a half circular piece of thick tile as a seat and successfully take my cast. It felt like I was showing the pillar some small bit of attention & bit of cherishing, that it deserved. I would love the idea of going back sometime switched into my alter ego mode of TPLM of the TPLF Trig Pillar Liberation Man of the TPLFront and spending many hours clearing the whole area around the pillar and painting it sparkling white. Also feels a bit of cloud cuckoo land. Across the river to the north, S3382 Conham, is proudly and happily standing on the grass with a bit of bramble behind and seems happy as Larry. Down by a U-bend in the river to the immediate south is the Conham river County Park, which I'd like to visit on some future occasion.

Detoured from my Keynsham to Bristol (Kennet & Avon canal walk) to find this suburban trigpoint, and located it via Lime Road behind some houses and next to a field. Not the most glorious setting, and some gardener had deposited grass cuttings and other garden waste around the base of the pillar. I don't know: some people have no respect for these holy concrete creations which are such an essential symbol of our surveying tradition! I returned to the river path by way of 'the hundred steps' as signposted down through the woods, only I counted 122 steps, so someone has got their sums badly wrong!
