2nd trig of new years day 2024. Good ramble along the Pennine Way from Edale, weather is bright....for now at least! Pillar stands on top of grit rocks, some 6ft up, asphalt plug, good condition.

I painted this iconic Trig point on 28/4/21, the Trig had been previously painted blue then someone had covered this with emulsion I think. The paint came off in flakes and the weather began to change its mind ! I was ok with the final result BUT I have different tools and equipment now which would make for a much better result….. I will have to redo this one next year.

Revisit during ten mile hike out of Barber Booth via Crowden Clough, Kinder Gate and Kinder Downfall. No change since last visit. Took a detour to Kinder Scout summit (Peak District Ethel) before returning to the pillar and descending via Jacobs Ladder.

After deviating from the masses heading south on the usual trail, we nipped across to visit the true summit of Kinder Scout and the county top, and then returned to the path using the trig as a heading. Another stunning pillar, atop a large gritstone boulder, with magnificent views in every direction. Pillar in good condition albeit with an asphalt replacement cap.

My first visit to Kinder Scout. Came up and down Jacobs ladder, walked along to Kinder Downfall while we were here. Fantastic views all the way up and down. Loved it.

Trig Point in excellent condition, sat on top of a large gritstone. This was the high point of our day, after a tough scramble up Grindsbrook Clough we explored the plateau, found this point then headed back down Jacobs Ladder.

Visited during a 13 mile hike in the Edale & Kinder area. Great views and walking. The pillar is in generally good condition but the original centre of the spider has been replaced. The pillar looks good on top of a large gritstone slab.

Walking the first section of the Pennine Way from Edale to Hadfield with detours for hill tops (including the proper top to Kinder Scout) and trig points. Scorching hot day and got rather burnt. Great relief to see the trig after the trudge up Jacob's Ladder. Had to wait to get my photo as plenty of walkers today.

On a 5.2 mile walk around Kinder Scout today. On this second leg of the journey, I took the path north from the Brown Knoll trig pillar, on to the public right of way (PRoW) past Swine's Back and Edale Rocks, and up to the Kinder Low trig Pillar. Heavy snow today in the Edale / High Peak area. No mobile phone signal, so had to rely upon my Garmin Etrex 30x to navigate. Dedicated to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away yesterday. RIP

Second of the day, very blustery, heading towards dusk. On top of a large boulder - was the ground level originally a lot higher? A little tricky to reach it, but then if you've managed the climb, it's likely not an issue!

I have passed this pillar umpteen times, but in a race or there was too many people surrounding it. A late night run from Rushup Edge and I eventually summitted Kinder Low, which is set on a huge boulder. Fantastic. A fresh coat of paint on the most visited trig on Kinder. The two trigs tonight are gifted to the unfortunate sods who are displaying 1970s "bonnets". OK when your young, but in your 50s and 60s mmmmm.

Revisit during glorious winter circuit of the Kinder plateau taking in all three trigs with the Mayes. Last of the three in darkness (came from The Edge trig via the Downfall) before dropping down to Jacob's ladder and Edle for tea at the Nag's.

Latest of eight visits. Walked up from Hayfield. Previously visited April, 2012, during walk round Kinder on the 80th anniversary of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass. The last but two visit was at 01.15 on a June night in 1989 - a night when the aurora borealis was promised but didn't appear. Still, from the trig we saw the filigree streetlamps of Manchester - another kind of northern lights ! First visit back in 1975 at start of Pennine Way. Kinder Scout has certainly changed since that first visit, it's gone green!

Cool and sunny walk up from the car park below the station in Edale, £5.00 for all day. Headed north up the minor road to the start on the Pennine Way then continued north to the east of Grinds Brook until a footbridge is reached. Before this footbridge I took a faint path uphill towards Golden Clough to meet the path that comes up from The Nab. At the top it is an easy walk over frozen moorland to Edale Moor trig. Then headed over to Kinder Low trig and came down via Edale Cross and Jackob's Ladder plus the first stretch of the Pennine Way. 21 km in under 5 hours with stunning scenery.

Despite being March, weather was good and so lots of walkers out. Had to queue up to take a photo of the trig. There was a group taking photos of themselves with their mascot - a furry tigger. Trig itself is in great condition and easy to spot.

Revisit to record GPS data. The Edge pillar easily visible. Came up via Crowden Clough which required some scrambling. Made a change to the usual and equally pleasant route up via Grindsbrook Clough.

Walked up from Barber Booth CP and onwards to Brown Knoll on a very windy day - having climbed the rock on which the trig stands, had to hang on for dear life. Also a cold day, quite a lot of snow still around. But v clear visibility and good views. E s/hole open, asphalt cap, vgc.

Visited Christmas Eve in high winds (all to ourselves a first) today the snow and people have arrived, exceptionally beautiful

Icy blasted a stunning day Next stop the top of Derbyshire - now where is that cairn in the snow hills?
Ice and snow the views from Kinder Massif There are some skiers nearby - don't feel the cold wading up to my hips in the snow!
Near the county top - maybe Crunch then sink - ice and snow hider the mass of peat

Second of three on W Kinder; walked from Brown Knoll admiring spectacular views N, W, and S. Trig easily found amid a lunar looking landscape. Trig is perched on a boulder, unusual. Dry conditions made it pleasurable walking, the only time in 40 years on the odd occasions I've been up on this plateau I've been able to say it. On to Kinder Downfall and trig three, 'The Edge'.

Walked up from brown knoll via edale cross stone slabs lead almost to trig,outstanding location and views recently painted, tar plug wind picked up even more had to put on down jacket watched many planes turning left on final approach to Manchester airport very clear light today.

Me and Rocky walked up Jacob's Ladder then headed over to Brown Knoll, then we went to Kinder Low, then to Kinder Scout and then the visit "The Edge" trig, then we followed Crowden Brook back to are starting point, a walk of 13 miles.

Did it really take me over two hours to walk the apparently short distance here from Edale Moor pillar? A smart looking whitewashed trig though unfortunately it was quite a bit too busy up here for my liking today.

As the weather is gloriously sunny after a mizzle this morning and ground conditions being dry enough to approach from an unconventional angle it deserves a high rating but from previous experience of Kinder it probably wouldn't have scored so high in the rain and with very soggy conditions underfoot. Boys enjoyed riding the "motorcycle" stones nearby.

Despite being tired I couldn't refuse this one as it was so close to the path. What a fabulous location - like a lunar landscape. Made all the more mysterious by the low cloud that enveloped me as I approached. Late enough in the day that the crowds I'd encountered on the way up this morning had gone. Pillar looking good in its coat of white paint.

Trig 4/5 Ackworth to Mam Tor Walk. Walked from Crowden via PW South to Edale (still a killer day). A clear day made for views that are perhaps too hard to describe in their completeness. What a place Kinder Scout is! And the trig is v easy to find not far from Edale Rocks. Mission almost complete now.

Asphalt plug. Public. Access Land. Peak District National Park. Stunning location on a rock at edge of Kinder plateau. Easy to find by following the Pennine Way up Jacob's Ladder to Edale Rocks, with the trig a little beyond. Tremendous descent into Edale down Grindsbrook Clough.

Walked up to this one from Edale via Grindsbrook Clough, it was a long walk for MicroFish who is only 3 and a half but when it was time to go down he asked if we could of walked further. A very windy day up here today, but well worth it for the views.

Completed as part of a circular walk from Hayfield - http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-kinder_walk.pdf. this is a great walk this is what hill walking - county top baggin and trigpointing is all about. Pillar good condition located on lump of rock on a peat bog summit, amazing views.

Sometimes I think my life decisions have just made things difficult for me. Variety, yes, but much, much frustration. Choosing to work out in concentric circles from Bloke House means that Kinder Low cannot be paired with Kinder Edge, or Brown Knoll. No. But Chinley Churn is fine. Hello! Deep valley!! Still. Fine walk up the south ridge of Broad Clough gave unusual, for me, views of Kinder Downfall, with the two edges either side spread like welcoming arms. (OK. Not really arms. But legs. And once that thought is with you, you can't get rid of it!) The pillar? Perhaps too high. Excellent distant views but no sense of any rising valleys. Edale Cross as a fine point of interest on the way down.

Visited on circular walk from Kinder Reservoir, going up via Williams Clough and down via Kinder Low. The Nuttall summit was the reason for the walk. We had always put it off due to the peat hags but on this day, the ground was frozen and there were good depths of snow over the hags - not all of which totally supported my weight. A great walk on a lovely sunny day.

Visited on a 10 mile circular walk from Edale. Weather awful until we reached the TP then it cleared and was lovely. Great place for a TP, sat on top of a large rock. Wonder if the ground around it has eroded away. Great views all round.

My first pillar for nearly two months, due to holidays and other problems. Set on a rock in the middle of a peat bog but not too squelchy today! Concrete plug replacement. Sighthole on opposite face to FB open, others closed. White paint, now faded. Good views on a very breezy day.

Absolutely slung it down from start of walk to the finish. Reached the Trig Pillar waterlogged, tired and extremely p****d off. Too much rain to photograph the place, so will have to go back another day (my quest is to photo every pillar in Derbyshire). Walked there from Bowden Bridge (nr Hayfield).

Visted on a circular walk of the western reaches of Kinder from Bowden Bridge via Kinder Scout's summit cairn at 636 metres. Kinder Low always looks good in its barren setting on the line of the Pennine Way.

Not a very awe-inspiring place this peat bog, especially when you can only just see your hand in front of your face - hence it only earning a 3. The walk up Jacobs Ladder and down Grinds Brook was worth the money though. ***Re-visited in passing 11 Nov 2019. Definitely worth more than a 3!!!

I really liked this one, perched on its rock with snow all around. The most logged pillar I have so far visited - I am the 40th logger. The downside was 3 hour walk back to where we had parked the car, including the slippery descent of Jacob's Ladder and arrival back at the car in the dark on unlit roads.

Proud position on large natural stone outcrop. In good condition. Stunning day in the snow, with Kinder plateau presenting a fabulous challenge. Try and get across from Edale to the 'The Edge Trig' without the GPS, then to Downfall, then to this Trig, then back to Edale. Awesome day!!
