Useful tips from prior logs, entered field from gate to north east. Did ask people at the house adjacent but they were just working there and said the field didn’t belong to the property owner anyway. Keep left of the clump of trees and over another gate. Pillar is pretty much on highest bit of ground. Few brambles nearby but otherwise clear of vegetation. Partial views towards the east. Extra points for moderate challenge. Raised S prefix. Fifth of eight today.

Parked in wide farm entrance @ TQ 145 568. Gate to NE, then field gate bearing the "Private" sign. However, not to be deterred I walked up to the trig to find a man working up there in the adjacent field - not a word was said!

Parking at field gate to NE. Access to pillar now has signs warning private land - no access. Ignored these. But there is work going on somewhere evidenced by heavy digger tracks and earth-moving machinery sounds a little to the S. Possible danger to the trig? Time will tell. Pillar has a composite cap; BSM-style FB; rear sight hole open. Some views above scrubby woodland.

Came same way as cmd1953 suggested & proved nice & easy. The rain from the night before made the field a bit boggy but no real obstacle in getting to the trig. Trig in good condition with cap replaced with plastic one

Not too difficult now. I parked at field entrance on lane to N., then over two easy gates and walk up the hill. Just head for summit of hill. Undergrowth not a problem.

This one gave me a lot of grief. Approached from the wrong direction through a field of very inquisitive and frisky cattle. Then had to clamber over a fence and then had to battle the vegetation which has grown up again. Locating the pillar wasn't easy, either. There is a plastic plug replacement. Traces of paint. Sightholes closed or obscured by soil. No views from here at all. Flush bracket with 'Raised S'.

Just a quick note to say that the land surrounding the T/P has mostly been cleared now and a new fence and gate have been installed at the top of the road. There is no indication as to what the clearance is for.

Slightly damaged 11th Mar 2007  08:13  by Pharisee

I was staying with friends over on Hawks Hill so while they were still sleeping off the previous eveings excesses, I took the oportunity to walk up to the local trig-point. Like those before me, I clambered over the metal gate at the top of Monks Green, now fitted with a new chain and padlock. Unlike those before me, I found that there had been a lot of clearance work carried out recently and there was wide, open swathe of land leading up the small pond at the top of the hill. From there it was a relatively short push through the brambles and thorn bushes to the trig point. It seemed a little sad and forlorn at being totally surrounded by rough scrub with absolutely no view of the surrounding country side. Ho hum.... I've marked it as slightly damaged as the centre plug has been taken and the hole blocked up with some sort of filler. Apart from that, it's in good nick, although a good clean and a coat of white paint may make it feel better :o) Incidentally, there is no 'S' in front of the number on the flush bracket as the database and some previous finders have stated. On second thoughts.... maybe there is... It's above, not in front. Silly me!

No GPS but found it quite easily, although the area is very overgrown. I hopped the metal gate and followed my nose so to speak. The pillar is in old thorn trees which are very brittle and quite easy to push through. Plent of brambles as well. The whole area seems to have been deserted, and has not been taken over by dog walkers, so paths are very faint. Resin plug.

vgc, old plastic cap. BSM style FB. Small copse of mature oaks, fairly open but hemmed in by blackthorn & bramble. Approx at highest point, seems a fair bit further than 100m from cul de sac.

Bit of a stinker, this one. I parked at the end of the cul-de-sac, and hopped over the old metal gate, from there it is over a rough field, and then brambles, brambles and more brambles, the last 20 meters is almost a crawl. this is one of those, that would be a struggle with no GPS. Pillar is in good conditon, and is completely surrounded by trees and brambles.

A tough one to find, even with little undergrowth. Park at the end of the Monksgreen lane coming in from the east then over the metal gate (which hasn't been opened for a very long time) and wind your way through the bushes and brambles. GPS highly recommended :-)
