(345) I ended up finally visiting what should have been an easy roadsider about 6 months too late it seems... It is still in place, a hop over the low wall and a short way from the road - but the site development seems to have ramped up recently and with it the security - there is Heras fencing all the way round the site, the main gate has been thoroughly secured and with CCTV and some hefty signage, it's fallen into the Unreachable but visible category for now. If I'd gone during daylight hours, I'd have looked for someone to ask for access permission, but I had to settle for a good look from the fence via torchlight. I couldn't even manage a clear pic.

The gate The 'gap' is filled with secure mesh sadly
The pillar It is there, I promise

What you can say about this pillar is that it is defiantly still there. I found it very interesting to see the photos from 2004 when it was in its natural habitat, next to the farm with an ancient cross for company. Since then the logs have chronicled the changes that have happened all around it. Now it stands alone in wasteland, overshadowed by the new warehouse. Unceremoniously I just climbed over the low wall and waded through the weeds to get to it.

Tried to find someone to ask about extent of the development but nobody about in the site office / mess. Cap is missing from this one but otherwise good condition. Returned to start via the PROW that now leads down to new housing estate on Weatherhill Rd then along West St and Birchencliffe Hill Rd, across Halfiax Rd to eventually rejoin the Kirklees Way. Followed Kirklees Way up to Top of Cowcliffe where there were good views across Huddersfield to Emley Moor transmitter (top amongst the cloud) and Victoria Tower. This trig is only a hop away from Lindley Moor Road which follows the course of the old Roman road from York to Manchester. (The Roman surface is only 15 inches below the tarmac). There may have been a hill fort near the trig. Also a few meters away is the 14th century Haigh Cross (a medieval prayer cross). As the inscription reads - Re-erected in 1808 following the willful destruction of the former cross. The Trig is in excellent shape with original metal plug, but unfortunately it may end up as another lost trig soon, for as noted by Slateloose the area is up for development, although according to the planning notices all around, it is for a huge Data Processing Campus as well as homes.

Close to house on West side of Crosland Road, in paddock surrounded by single wire fence. Called at house to ask permission to go onto their property but no-one was in. Went on property anyway with great care. There is an interesting stone pillar (Haigh Cross) even closer to the house so I suspect they are used to historians also going on their land.
