Drove along coast road thinking I might go into the giant holiday complex but thought better of it when I saw the security lodge and barriers. So quickly turned down a gloomy little lane to the railway station. Pretty obvious that railway travellers dont come down this lane to the station as only just enough room to turn and park on pull in. Can only think that the quite large station is purely to service the holiday camp. Continued walking down lane and through golf course to cliffs, with pillar appearing prominent on skyline. Nice, small rocky headland with little motorboats chugging along on a calm, sunny late summers evening with the hills of S Snowdonia as the northern horizon.

2nd of the day. Parked South of the rlwy station and tried to follow green path on OS 1:25000 map. New holiday camp, GC and pond render those routes obsolete, but we found our way eventually on a hat-tossingly windy morning to enjoy the views, the turbulent sea and the peacefulness.

Hold on to your hat weather! Trig and view.

Morning walk along Lleyn Peninsula Coast Path from Pwllheli to Criccieth in fine rain and drizzle. A fairly uninteresting section of coast path as you are forced inland to walk beside the A497 for some distance. Returned by bus to Pwllheli from Criccieth.

This trig is close to the shore and not far above sea level. Good view of Cardigan bay and Criccieth castle. Further afield is Harlech castle, with the back drop of the Snowdownia range and Rhinogs. Nearby is a Haven holiday park, which I think was an army barracks taken over by Butlin in the 1950s. There are also the remains of some gun emplacements that I believe formed part of the coastal defences during the second world war. See earlier logs for parking and ease of access.

Trig point by train from Pen y Chain station. Easy walk today after the hard climb up to Moel y Gest yesterday. Great to see the sea again after all these months! Sat for a while with a picnic just looking out and taking in the views.

From the highest at Yr Eifl to nearly the lowest pillar of the peninsula. Glorious way to enter our last night of freedom for some time. From the sandy car park along the sea, tide coming in on the return - a Wales in miniature with the Rhinogs growing purple and turnstones and sandpipers flying by us with the lowering sun.

Parked up a bit S of the rly station, over the bridge, by the 'private road' sign. Pleasant walk through golf course etc to a stunning headland given its lack of height - a wild sea making it more so. Pillar has no top cap or plug; LHS sight hole open. Despite the low cloud the sea-scapes were super.

Parked down lane to station, just enough room to get one car in before the bridge over to rail line. Walked up lane to Penychain farm then through golf course on footpath passing new holiday lodges. Footpath signs are few and hard to follow, so followed the vehicle track that heads towards the ruins at Penrhyn. The footpath then is lost in an overgrown track between hedges. did manage to find a gate giving access to the coastal path and the trig point. Not easy by any means and rain never stopped once.

Got off the bus outside Hafan Y Mor and then walked through the holiday park, bringing back childhood memories of the days when it was still Butlins. The panorama of Cardigan Bay from Pen-ychain was just as magnificent as I expected, with a bracing wind thrown in too to help heighten the senses. I returned inland, past the train station and then up to Pentyrch trig pillar (even better).

Cycled on mountain bike from Criccieth via Chwilog so lots of off-road. Great ride except for puncture on way back.

A bike would have been good as it doesn't seem possible to drive along the track. Last farm is not occupied. Wettest track in the Principality from Penrhyn to the rocky mound on which the TP is located. Lovely setting on a lovely morning in February.

One of the best. Parked just down the lane from Penychain railway station and had a lovely walk through a farm to the trig. Perfect weather and superb views. Lots of people enjoying the day, many from the huge Haven holiday camp nearby.

No plug. Trig behind & above headland on Lleyn Peninsula Coastal Path. SSSI open to the public. Easiest access through Hafan y Mor holiday camp & along coastal path. RoW south from Penychain station very muddy.

Square concrete pillar on a square concrete pedestal. Spider centre missing. Coastal trig on what would be a nice remote headland if it were not for the nearby holiday camp.
