My second visit to this TP and both times caught out by how relatively tough it is - a real lung-buster; it's straight up. Subconsciously you think anything in a country park is going to be 'a walk in the park'. Very enjoyable - car park full, saw only 3 people the whole time actually walking on the hill.

Guarded by a herd of cows, albeit not very well as a stream of dog walkers showed up at the summit whilst I was there, including one who'd trained his pooch to jump on top of the nearby toposcope. Pillar sits in the shadow of a beacon erected for the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002. Sadly, the nearby information board has been removed - why would anyone do that? A substantial climb up the hill is rewarded by spectacular 360 degree views. A must-visit.

The pillar stands on the grassy summit of a wooded hill in the south of Gloucester. The trig, including the FB S5026, is coated by the remnants of a coat of green paint; its base is exposed by up to five inches. The top of the pillar is a bit battered and the spider has an asphalt plug. The site is within the Robinswood Country Park and Local Nature Reserve. There is easy access by means of the web of tracks and paths on the western side of the hill. The pillar shares the summit with a Jubilee Beacon, a geological information board and the base of a stone built topograph without its top information plate. To the east a long line of the main Cotswold Edge can be seen from the far south up to Cheltenham and Bredon Hill in the north east. There is a view over Gloucester and the Vale of Gloucester to the Malvern Hills in the north. To the west May Hill and the Forest of Dean can be seen with a high ridge in the far distance. From the southern end of the hill top there is a fine view to the south down the Vale of Berkeley to the original Severn Bridge in the distance.

Walked over from the nearby geocache. The TP seems to have been painted blue/green at some point. Cap in place - cemented in and some bits knocked off. Nearby is a Golden Jubilee beacon and what appears to have been a topograph, now vandalised No views today due to mist - I should imagine they are very good though

Play misty....

I'm sticking with good, condition wise, even though there is a bit of spelching at the top. We parked at the visitor centre and took a pleasant walk up to the trig. It is in the company of a beacon and a viewfinder, which unfortunately has had its direction plate removed (probably stolen by chavs). Excellent views. Tarmac/concrete plug.

Sticking with Good but there is damage to the top face, its been painted green and there is some grafitti. Not enough to call a downgrade but one to watch over time. Great view of the City.

Robinswood Hill is a country park run by Gloucester City Council. The bare pillar is located near a toposcope. Heard the first cuckoo of the year on the way up.
